hey guys, my camaro is my first carb. I bought it recently with a holley 650 in it, she's a nice engine. Well it's roughly 25 degrees where I am and it seems like if i pass roughly 2500 rpm and the car hasnt been running 10 minutes or so she shuts right off. Is that normal?? i'm used to fuel injection where I can just get up and go.
she does need a tune, thats pretty obvious. But, i'm just stumped. I tried to merge into traffic before I warmed her up and she cut right out. 82 z28 with a 350 swapped in guys. thanks

Do you have a functional choke system on the carb? It's purpose is to richen the mixture when the engine is cold. Without it starting and running in cold weather can be a pretty miserable experieince until things warm up.

I believe its supposed to have an electric choke but it seems like there isn't one at all. that would explain it but i didn't think it could affect it that muchOriginally Posted by Damon

I have a similar problem. My qjet will start right up in the morning (15 degrees) but I need to hold it at at least 1000 rpm or it will die. Let off the gas and it shakes and bucks like crazy. I have to back down the driveway holding it at 1k and a foot on the break. But once I get the car into second gear it drives normal and the problems are gone. No idea what's causing it

i was told it could be the pcv valve, here's hoping. simple thing can cause so much hell.Originally Posted by Gsoleski

mine, when cold, dies as soon as i put it in drive if i use manifold vacuum on vacuum advance, no way i can get a 14:1 AFR at idle on manifold vacuum without it stalling as soon as i put it in drive after warming up for a minute or two but on ported vacuum idles great in drive even at 15:1

well mine still dies if cold, I think its a choke issue. I was looking at my carb and the electric connector clip looks broken off labeled choke.Originally Posted by camarito

If you don't have 12 volts wired to the choke then there's your problem. Get your choke working properly and you'll be good to go.
