Carbed 305 computer and emissions delete
The title says it all, I have a carbed 305, that is in pretty rough shape. I am going to build a 383 stroker over the next year to replace it.
What I want to do in the mean time is remove all the emissions equipment, and the ecm since the computer wont work with the 383 anyways.
what do I need to keep? the evap canister? what... I dont have to pass an emissions test or a visiual inspection, so what is required? I want a super clean engine bay, already deleted the heater and the AC.

You can get rid of the Evap canister but you will have to figure out a good way to vent you gas tank to keep it from pressurizing. The ECM harness is easy to remove and you will still have the following in the engine harness: Fan temp switch, coolant temperature sensor, brake switch sensor, ignition hot to distributor, tach wire, oil pressure sensor, A/C wiring, Cruise control wiring (if equiped) and choke heater wire.
The only vacuum lines you will need is for the brake booster, PCV valve and vacuum advance on your distributor.
If you have an electronic speedo you will have to cut the yellow and the purple wires, that go to the speed sensor in the trans, out from the ECM harness (both sides) and splice them together and you will have to add a ground wire to the connector to the speed controller which is mounted near the ECM so that your speedo will work.

The computer will work just fine.
Where do you live? Do you require emissions checks where you live? If you are in California you may want to stop now because you will have a hard time doing what you want as it's 100% illegal.
