Holley Help

I'm in the current state (just trying to save my money) of building a 355 for my 85 camaro. It has around 10:1 compression (a little higher), a 288 comp cams hydraulic roller

288/294 236/242 @.050 .520/.540 110LSA

3500 stall

3.73 gears

Not sure about heads but they will be around 195cc. Most likely Pro Fillers.

Now Holleys website said the car should weigh 3100 or less to use a double pumper but my friend has a 70 monte carlo with full interior and a 11.5:1 355 with ported heads, edelbrock performer RPM cam and a holley hp 750 double pumper and it runs great. So I'm a little confused.

What type of carb would you guys suggest and what kind of secondaries? The car is going to be driven on the street mostly but having a lot of fun in it. Will take a few trips to the strip probably like once or twice a year.

Re: Holley Help

750 will be good for that. i like the 4150, mechanical everything because i know by looking at it in the pit whether the secondaries and choke are doing what they are supposed to. seems like less to tune too.

Re: Holley Help

i probably know half a dozen people running 12's with some sort of 350 and car weighing more than 3100, and a double pumper. not sure what thats about. maybe the vacuum ones dont run right that way. one of the reasons i didnt want to have to worry about that

Double pumper any day of the week. Don't listen to those old antiquated holley recommendations.

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Holley Help

Same here. I don't care for vacuum sec carbs AT ALL. They might be OK for bracket racing with an auto trans, where you just want to mat it and then it does all the work exactly the same every time; but for going as fast as possible, as well as pure fun, manual secondaries all the way.

Re: Holley Help

I have had good results with proform and quickfuels and they are less expensive and have pretty decent base calibrations.

Re: Holley Help

the summit one seems to be the cheapest, you just have to get some jets the ones it comes with are a bit big. they have individual jets on ebay for 4.88 a pair, but if you are going to be racing it you may want to spring for the jet kits they have
