E4ME Running Rich
E4ME Running Rich
OK - my 1984 305 is running OK- starts up every time after a little pumping of the pedal. BUT I can smell its running rich... GM Devils made sure no shadetree guy like me can adjust it---- soooooo- what am I to do?? Is there anyway to adjust the IDLE ??? I plan on adding a can of Texron fuel treatment and taking her out on the hwy. BUT I bet I will still be scratching my head with a Rough IDLE in the Driveway.

Sounds like one of the primary float bowl plugs is leaking, drains the bowl overnight (hard starting) and runs rich at idle (leaking directly into the manifold) I just had one fall completely out of my 84 Z-28 and disappear down the manifold and into (and hopefully out a cylinder) praying no long term damage was done

When it gets weak, it tells the computer the exhaust is lean. So, the computer richens the mixture. Make sense?
Aren't you glad those GM devils made it easy for the car to tell you what's wrong?

That means, in plain old English, that you need to replace the oxygen sensor.
