1982 TA with Rochester
Hi Guys,
The previous owner of my car when they rebuilt the motor pullers off the Fuel Injection and replaced it with a Rochester Carby..
The car is not running so well this with and I have told to take it off and throw it away and replace it with a Holley 570 Street Avenger...
Thoughts??

Was the car originally crossfire? Some TAs had rochesters stock in 82
What is your fuel pressure? Was the first carb swap done correctly?

A Rochester Quadrajet aint bad IMO but like any carb at times it needs to be adjusted and tuned. Once tuned in you will not have to tune it as much as most carbs out there. A quadrajet IMO is better than an Edelbrock all around and though im a Holley fan the quadrajet is a lot less tempermental. So NO dont throw it away its really a great carb and the best thing is you already have it

with the swap to carb from FI they should also have swapped the original computer controlled distributor to one with mechanical/vacuum advance. if the dist has not been swapped your motor will suffer from very lazy timing advance and corresponding lack of performance.
otherwise the mech qjet should work well if it's in proper order.

all the carbs are only as good as the guy tuning it. alot of people just throw it on and expect it to work and then say it sucks because it runs like crap. you need to learn how to tune it or find someone who knows how, not sure how many people there do. even in america the number of techs who will touch any carb are dwindling fast.

All Quadrajets are different though, and they made millions of those for hundreds of different cars (and not just GMs). First, if the engine is pretty much stock, you have to make sure it's compatible.
If you put a 500 Cadillac Quadrajet on a base LG4, it's unlikely it will ever run right.
What's the carburetor code (visible on the DS of the carb) ? Is it even a Quadrajet ?
Is it remanufactured or original ? Is the air horn straight (typical problem on Qjets is warping of the air horn and sometimes float bowl).
I'm using a rebuilt "correct" carb on my L69 and yet it still needs a tune up (running a bit rich and idle too fast).

Re: 1982 TA with Rochester
I haven't done any dwell adjustment, as I don't have a dwell meter yet (I will probably order one soon).
