E85 Tuning

E85 Tuning

So I am changing my holley 750 from regular to corn.

It is a 355 with 30 over pistons. Just looking to find a base tune so that I can get it running and driving.

Any starting ideas?

Does anyone also know if you have to play with timing running e?

id be curious myself hoping to run my 72 on e85 one thing i do know if regular old rubber hose wont work you need fuel injection hose, or so i was told upon reading up on it.

Having gone through this in 2006, I would give two pieces of advice:

1) Don't do anything to your carb to convert it to E85.

2) Buy a carb made specifically to run E85. Quick Fuel is probably a good place to start.

The only parts you should use in the conversion are the fuel bowls. Everything else either needs to be recalibrated (air bleeds in main body, emulsion bleeds in metering blocks, etc.) or should use different materials (throttle body should have stainless shafts & plates). After you go through all the hassle, it still probably won't work as well as a carb built from the start for E85.

In hindsight, I spent as much money trying to get my Holley to work as the Quick Fuel would have cost me - except it wasn't available when I started the process.

what would you have to do with fuel lines, spark plugs anything else besides carb?

I see both sides of it.

We already bought the metering plates and have them hooked up.

My dad is the local carb guru so the conversion and parts was easy. That and there are plenty of local guys who have 7 second cars running on e so parts and tuning wasnt terrible.

Since my car is going boost we adjusted all the power valves, needle and seats, shooters, and jets.

TylerCamaro we upgraded the fuel lines because on e you spray a lot more fuel, I already did my pump long ago, and for plugs you usually run a colder plug cause e is alcohol based.

I can say that with the switch and now tuning it, HUGE difference. Keeps the car nice and cool. We just switched my dads 71 chevy drag truck over to e85 as well and he was just as impressed.

Been on E85 for about 4 years. Great stuff. I run a high 10 second, N/A 13.8 to 1 355ci cheaply on the street all the time. I have done multiple carbs myself. One thing for sure is either doing it yourself, or bought, you need to have a wideband. Very difficult to tune without it. Even with the bought carb your going to have some tuning that should be done. If your not familiar with carbs, and how all the circuit's work, buy one done. If you like tinkering, and figuring things out for yourself, you may like it. But it is a process.
On my carb I have changed to e85 metering plates, stainless high flow needle and seats, and upgraded to an A1000 fuel pump with 1/2" fuel line and return from the tank up. Tuning parts to handle the extra flow requires high flow boosters, larger jets, accelerator pumps, discharge nozzles, and power valves. You don't give enough detail on your setup to say what your tune should be close to. If your not running high compression, or boosting, I'm not sure it would be worth the effort to change.
