Will new Carburetor & Intake (Non EGR) effect automatic transmission operation?

1984 Trans Am with the LG4, stock 4bbl. Looking to replace my worn out Qjet with a Holly or Edelbrock Carb. & Intake set (without EGR). Does anyone know if this will seriously effect the geometry of my automatic transmission cable and damage my transmission? I'd like to get a manual transmission in the next 4 years. Any other cons to upgrading my stock engine with a better carb and intake? Will EGR delete create a timing issue? Hit me with it.

If you go with the Holley, get this TV cable correction bracket.

Then be sure to follow the proper adjustment procedure.

An excellent instructional video can be found in the following thread link, post #9.
