Anybody have a definite carb height or intake p/n that will clear the stock trans am or Firebird hoods with a Holley 600vs and drop base air cleaner? Currently I have stock aluminum intake , carb adapter and 3/4" spacer with l69 air cleaner and it BARELY rubs the bottom of the hood supports. Looking to change over to vortec heads with an aftermarket intake and 14x3 drop base air cleaner.

 

I have an Edelbrock Performer. NOT the 360 model. I had an Edelbrock carb, a 1" square-to-spread bore spacer, and the stock air cleaner housing (also a 10" filter) It barely fit. I'm back to a Q-jet (non-emissions) and stock gasket with the stock air cleaner- it's fine- a whole 1/4" .

Based on the published numbers I think it is about 5/8" taller. Hopefully it will still fit!!

 

I have Vortec heads also. I use a Chinese knock off Ebay Air Gap with an Edelbrock 600 carb and a drop base 14x2 air cleaner. Has about a 1/4 inch clearance with a stock 1987 Firebird hood.

 

My car is an 87, so I used this intake... Same as the 86-down intake, just the holes are angled differently.
