Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild

Hi,

If I rebuild my carb with an AC Delco kit like this... :

https://www.summitracing.com/int/par...6028/overview/

Do you think the kit above provides all replacement parts I need to make sure the carb runs like new? If not, which 'wear' parts I will need also? Do you know a website who sells more complete carb rebuild kits? I want to have all the necessary parts to make it run properly. For example, do I need to replace the jets and the float for new ones? At the last rebuild with this kit several years ago, I noticed that the plastic cup in the carb was missing... Do you think it's a problem?

Also, I think my well plugs are leaking because it needs a lot of cranking to start the car after sitting for a while. The epoxy trick works of I absolutely need to drill and tap the plug holes?

I want to make a to-do list and order all the necessary parts to rebuild my carb properly. Could you give me advice?

Re: Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild

I just did redid my first carb rebuild and so far it seems to have gone OK. I went with a NAPA kit that also didn't have absolutely everything included.

My carb had never been rebuilt before and did not have the cup either - I don't think they all have that from the factory based on what I've read.

They say the float is good to replace but I couldn't find one so I reused mine and it seems OK. From my very limited experience, you may be able to get away with it.

The epoxy trick did it for me - cranks at the bump of a key now. Some say it'll rot and fall off in no time, but 99% of what I've read leads me to believe it's probably fine. At the very least its no worse than having leaking plugs.

I haven't read anywhere that the jets NEED replacing unless they're seriously out of wack. Just a good soak and brush gets most of the crud off from what I can tell.

Re: Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild

Oreilley Auto parts carries the brass float that you'd probably definitely want...those composite floats tend to get less buoyant over time...IIRC, less than 15 bucks.
