Rochester to Edelbrock, 85 firebird 305 700r4

1985 firebird 305 V8 700r4 , lg4, all stock untill now. Was factory Rochester carb. Pulled heads due to bad gasket, found intake to be pitted beyond repair, decided to dive into an edlebrock swap with a new intake.

Trying to double check my list, been reading several past posts and have gathered some awesome info, excellent forum members here with lots of knowledge, kudos. If you can see anything I missed please let me know. I already Ordered the following:

Edl-2021 kit w/600 cfm carb
Acell 59107c dizzy (vac advance)
Holley 20-95 bracket
Holley 20100 bracket (ordered this and above to check difference in fit)
TCI 376710 TV geometry corrector bracket.
Have all necessary implied seals and gaskets

I read a post mentioning getting the torque converter to lock, but that was on a tpi/tbi to carb swap, is it any different on my situation? Will not locking the converter untill I get around to figuring that part out hurt anything? (I know this is carb section, this question is secondary to the list and was an issue created by the carb swap, hope it's welcome in this section as an addendum to my primary issue)

Thank you very much

The TCC doesn't use vacuum for lockup unless it's a Canadian car. The TCC is controlled by the ECM.
If the ECM has been disabled, you will need a after market TCC lockup kit...

Re: Rochester to Edelbrock, 85 firebird 305 700r4

It's an American car, been in North Central Texas it's whole life.

I haven't "disabled" the ECM, however in doing this I'm killing alot of its inputs, o2 sensor, electronic carb, egr etc. I'm guessing it's going to be useless once the cars back together, guessing it's not going to controll the TCC like that

I should have read the vacuum diagram more carefully, I see now that line goes to the "vac sensor" (map). My bad.

You would be better off with the Quadrajet.

I considered that, but opted to go this route and have already devoted the funds towards it. It may not be the best route, but it's the one I chose

Re: Rochester to Edelbrock, 85 firebird 305 700r4

Well you can always get an aftermarket TCC lockup like T.L. said. I rebuilt an Lg4 in a Formula I had years ago and replaced my Quadrajet with a Holley. Never did run a lockup switch on that car and it done fine. I can tell you I never once had to adjust or work on the old Quadrajet before but the Holley had to be fiddled with all the time and I wound back up putting a Quadrajet back on it before it was said and done. Ive heard Edelbrock Carbs are pretty reliable ive never ran one but once on a pickup but ive always ran their intakes. Good luck with it man.

So not locking the TCC won't damage anything? I know the TV cable is super important to tranny health, got that covered

The gas mileage won't be as good, and the trans will run hotter if you have tall gears like 2.73 or 3.08....

I cant say for sure how much damage it would do. Ive ran 2- 700R4s without the converter locking up but these weren't really daily driven cars. Probably put 20k mi on each w/ no issues but to be safe id get the kit to lock it up its only around $125 iirc.

Sounds like a plan.

As far as the carb goes, am I missing anything? Have the new dizzy and the TV brackets

Re: Rochester to Edelbrock, 85 firebird 305 700r4

I'm curious if the ECM would still control the TCC even if it's no longer controlling the carb and dizzy. I'm sure someone here knows...

Will also be lacking input from the O2 sensor and EGR. It would be nice if it still did though
