Non-thirdgen carb issue-need ideas

Sorry for posting a non-3G topic, but I need advice. I'm helping a friend of mine put a 1979 Isuzu Pup 1.9L 4-banger motor back together. The 2-bbl carb is defunct in every way and he wants to replace it with something that's not electronically controlled. Main reason being, the previous owner did all kinds of wacky stuff with this truck and the control unit is nowhere to be found, neither are the wires. I don't even know what make/brand of carb this is, either. Anyone know what I could look for that would work, and meet the criteria?

I'm thinking this name is going to get butcherd but it should be called a (Minikiene) yep butcherd the word because I cant even pronounce it. I'm not too sure what you could do without the funkey CC stuff but the computer doesent do much there anyway so it could run without the connections with little difference at all. You probabvly might be able to find a complete electric system in a junk yard and put it in your friends truck chevy LUV's are the same. If you could measure the baseplate and where exactly the holes are we might be able to come up with something that could be retrofitted in there. Its been a long time since ive seen one of the carbs but im 90% sure it has the same dimentions as a 2bbl found on 2.8's so maybee an S10 non cc carb could work there but linkage would have to be made for sure.
Good Luck!

Well, we wanted to stay away from the electronic stuff because this truck is a big frankenstein job. The truck itself is a 1984 Chevy S-15 with this 1.9 Pup motor in it. I don't know how the heck the '84 S-15 was originally set up before this motor was put in it, whether it used the same CC system or not; I will get those base plate dimensions though.
One thing that came to mind, is that the existing carb reminds me of the one that was on my 1988 Dodge D-50 (Mitsubishi Mighty Max) 2.0 motor, one round bore sort of split down the middle with a choke plate on the primary side. I dunno, it's been 4 years since I sold that truck so I can't quite place the picture.

I see what you're trying to do. If you are talking about modifying it for a 2bbl Holley or Rochester carb or something, as long as you are able to fabricate an adapter plate, I don't see why that won't work.

If you have access to a milling machine, go get yourself a 1 inch block of aluminum and go for it. It's tricky, and if the holes line up kind of close, then all you're talking about is adapting the mounting holes probably.

If you don't have a milling machine, then wood will work. You'll have to seal the wood though, maybe with polyurethane???

What you're doing is experimental, so anything goes and anything's possible.

Ah ok now the picture is comming togather. Was this engine some sort of drunken bet? (J/K)

If it was put in an S10/15 there is nothing the same as far as wires go. The Pup carb sounds like one of the few that did have a MCS on it but the S15 ecm will not adjust it correctly so were SOL there. Is the distributor a vac advance or electronic advance? Either way your going to need eailyer model parts around 1975. After all the headach of finding parts for this thing it would have been easyer to modify engine mounts and the steering shaft to put a non cc v8 in there. But im thinking if this dis is ccontrolled you may be able to track down an early 80's 4banger station wagon and get the carb and computer out of it to make this work but it's going to set off every other code in the book.
Good Luck!

Actually it probably was. The previous owner said he bought both the S-15 and the Pup from a boneyard and put 'em together (actually he didn't know whether it was a Pup or a Chevy LUV, but oh well).
We figured it out--we took the carb into Autozone and they brought back a few boxes to us. One was an emissions carb like we've got now, and the other was not, so we've got our carb now.
Funny thing is, it was listed under 1984 Chevy S-10. They punched up the 1978 Pup/LUV, and it said the motor was a 1.8 and the carb was different. So apparently, this motor made it into the donor truck from somewhere else before it went into this truck. Crazy backyard mechanics.
