Kickdown cable

Now this might not be the exact place for this question to be, but it has to do with a new carb I bought so I figured I’d ask it here. I have a 1986 Pontiac Firebird base model with a 305 V8 in it. Recently I decided to replace the intake manifold and carb. The intake manifold was simple enough, but I ran into issues with the carb. I bought an Edelbrock AVS2 series carb, and it bolted in fine, the issue is with the throttle linkage and kickdown linkage. They just don’t line up properly. We found a linkage kit that could potentially solve the throttle linkage problem, but can’t find one for the transmission kickdown. So my question is: is the kickdown even needed? It’s a manual transmission car, so why would a manual transmission vehicle need a cable that automatically changes gears? I’ve never had my gears shift automatically, so what is it even there for? Do I need to hook this back up, or can I just leave it/remove it and continue on with just the throttle issue? Any advice here would be great. And also if anyone knows exactly what throttle linkage kit I would need, that would be helpful as well, because right now I’m just guessing and checking. Thanks!

Re: Kickdown cable

I think you answered your own question. A manual transmission does not use a TV cable or kickdown linkage...

Yeah I assumed that was the case. Why does it have one at all then?

It's possible your car was originally equipped with an automatic trans, and a previous owner swapped to a manual and was too lazy to remove the rest of the unrelated components.
Can you post some pics?...

What's the other end of that 'kickdown' cable connected to?
