I got my Firebird to start!

After sitting idle for 15 year the "mighty" 305 H vin has come to life. The problem is the carburetor which id gummed up so the car does not idle for long. Could the problem be the fuel filter or do I need to replace the carburetor? Any thoughts and yes the engine is best used as a boat anchor or better yet to sink something but first things first.

If it's been sitting long (like you have stated), everywhere the fuel goes can be the problem. I "assume" you flushed all the old fuel, and have just started with fresh fuel and have done nothing else? If so, you'll need to get to work and change out/clean anything the old fuel sat in/ran through. Tank, pump, lines, filter, carb... You get the point. Don't forget your other fluids either, 15 years is aloooong time. GL.

The idle is so smooth and the carburetor is gummed up, the chock is malfunctioning, it closes shut and needs to be blocked open. I will know tomorrow, oh I need a new radiator, where can I get a OEM one?

The direct replacement that you can get at Advanced Auto, Autozone, etc. will be just fine for your application.

Update, I was able to get one from O' Reilly. The old one has stuck floats. While expensive this was one of the problems that parked the car. The headlights is one of the other problems.

I am going to replace the cooling system as this too was butchered. The radiator is full of white corrosion and some copper corrosion.

Run a flush through it before you install the new radiator. Consider looping the heater core until you know it’s good (or replace it).

I was thinking about just replacing it along with the hoses. All of the hoses are rotten and the radiator is full of white power or corrosion. My regret is the car will retain the Lame Auto engine. There is so much to do. The kid that had it before me damaged the passenger side headlight assembly. Then there is corossion, not too bad but I will take care of it by using a steel wire wheel, primer and black paint.
