To high idle

I have a 1985 camaro with a quadrajet 4bbl with electric choke. I have a rough idle foud a leak betewn the carb end intake. Now it fix it idle fine but idle arond 1500rpm when hot when it cold in sputed and smoke and smell gas, i have to rev it arond 2500 for 30 sec then it ok. My idle srew is back out all the way. Can a rich or lean mixture cause it? Maby a vacum leek? I dont know of any more adjustment. Dont know what to do.

I am french sory for my bad english.

No.

Maby a vacum leek?
Maybe, yes.

But approach it in a LOGICAL and systematic manner, not a fluster of "maybe it's this maybe it's that".

First, unplug the solenoid right behind the linkage where the throttle cable hooks up to the carb.

Look at the place where the throttle cable hooks up. (right side of the photo, right in front of the big spring) Look right below that in the photo. (large cylindrical object with a wire going to it)

That solenoid. That wire. Unplug it and see what happens to the idle speed.

Re: To high idle

This does sound like you created another vacuum leak while fixing the first one.

Re: To high idle

That's not a computer controller carb....E4ME... It's a later 70s APT style quadrajet..M4M series..so it's not stock.

As sofa said... If you have backed off the idle speed screw to zero... It's gotta be getting air from somewhere else ... Airflow controls idle speed....mostly.
