I read your instructions on how to adjust the IAB valve yesterday and since my car was running way too rich and deiseling here and there i figured why not give that a try. I drilled the rivets out of that little airhorn thing in front of the primaries and pulled the plate off. I started my car and it idled like total crap and wouldnt stay at a stable rpm. It jumped (in park) anywhere from 500 to 1000. I figured i just needed to adjust it so i started from there. I turned the screw down till it stopped (gently) and it seemed to idle best at that point. Realizing that the spot it was at was too low, i looked to something else as the problem. I had no clue what my timing (had a friend set it for me, he used an advanced light and didnt bypass the computer) was so i adjusted it by ear. A little advancing of the timing and it idled better. I backed the screw out three turns and found that it worked best with two and a half turns. I then sat in the car and revved it a few times, for some reason when i held a certain rpm (like 1500, or 2000) it stumbled quite like when you put a little water down the carb and hold it at 3500 rpm. I shut it off and went to start it back up. When i put the key back in the on position, i could hardly hear my metering rods. I knew then something was wrong. They sounded really slow and quiet. I started it up and took it for a spin. Everything seemed all right until i got halfway down the street and the car began to stumble, and then it eventually died on me. Now im stuck with my car sitting in the driveway with no idea what to do next, if you can give me some of your expertise on this one i'd greatly appreciate it. I want other people to see this incase they have had a problem like i am having

the problem has gotten a little worse, at idle i have about 6 pounds or however its measured. im not sure if its related or not, but i dont get any heat out of my vents when i turn the heater on, only the defroster.

Start by setting the timing properly - with the 4-wire disconnected and using a timing light. If your friend set it without disconnecting the computer, you were about 30 degrees retarded (we won't estimate the amount for your friend).
Anything else you try before setting the timing correctly is a waste of time.

we set the timing last night to zero with the computer disconnected and it ran great after it got to 2k it pulled right on up to 5.5k. anythig below that and its a constant struggle to not bog and die.

Also check for vacuum leaks. Your defroster only mode is indicative of no or low vacuum to that system. If that is a reflection of your manifold vacuum, small wonder it won't idle.
I see you have an open element air cleaner. Did you block of the old thermovac port on the carb, for instance?
Take a good look around for things of that nature.

yes i blocked it off with a small piece of that rubber hose and stuck a golf tee in it. hmm, everything seemed to be all right till i messed with the IAB valve. there was a hint of a problem with idle before, but now its full blown, its not so much of an idle issue as much as it is when you try and accelerate. when i try and accelerate what happens is the dumb car bogs down and almost dies, so you have to almost feather the gas pedal. wierd. im taking my car to the muffler shop and have them inspect the muffler, maybe someone stuffed something in there.

My first suggestion would be to put the IAB back where it was before. There's only so much adjustment in it. You really can't hurt anything. Trying going clockwise and see if it gets better. If not, go CCW and see if it gets better. I suspect you have the valve turned a little too far down. When you get it right it's obvious- runs much better.
