K&N Open air and Xtreme Lid

Hey Guys,

Anyone know what size open-air filter, base, and Xtreme lid to get for the LG4 with CCQ-jet?

Thanks,

(Edit) Just to clarify things, I have the stock hood. I either want to go with a 14x2 filter with the Xtreme lid, or just the 14x3 filter with a solid lid. Which would be better?

Anyone??? What size open air filter works best with the stock hood? Should I get the Xtreme lid?

Greg, I'm going with a 2 1/4" filter and the 14" Xstreme lid on top of my Malibu's engine due to hood clearance issues. I ran the math and the filtering area with the Xstreme lid and 2 1/4" filter is greater than with a 3" tall filter and sold lid, so it should flow just fine.

Thanks. After reading some more archives, it seems I may just go with the 3" high 14" round K&N. I can do without the Xtreme lid. There's no way my stock LG4 even with future mods (intake, cam, exhaust) will ever get choked with the 3". That's another $60 I can spend on another mod anyway. IMO, the Xtreme lid would probably be good for poser value only for this application.

Before you spend any money, consider an AMSOIL oiled open cell foam filter instead of the K&N. It'll flow as much as the K&N, hold as much dirt as the K&N, is cleanable and reusable like the K&N, but will filter out smaller particles than the K&N (K&N is in the same effeciency range as a paper filter for small particles). It costs about the same as or less than the K&N.

FWIW, I found a 14x2 worked just fine with my mods before getting the dual snorkel. Stock needs even less air.

Kid- I was looking at that filter in the Amsoil catalog (I'm a dealer but I only sell to myself and friends/family to get the discounts on the synth lubes) and was wondering if it's for real. I am always sceptical. Any 3rd party testing you know of to confirm those clams?

I only know the tests are conducted in accordance with standardized methods, in this case SAE J726C.

I haven't heard of anyone challenging the claims, either.
