Uneven Burn after Carb swap.

I have just completed my TBI to carb swap and have been working out the details. I have found that I am having an uneven burn problem with the plugs. #1..2..6 are BLACK 3..4..7.. are a little used 5..8...are almost clean as new.

Any ideas where to go with this.......There is no knock and it runs pretty well.

Thanks
Brian

Sounds more like an ignition related problem than the carb. Check out the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, pickup coil, etc.

Well they are all new. I have the proform HEI from Jegs and the wires are not new however they have al little over 2000 miles on them. If you are thinking ignition what plugs would you think are running correctly..........Very white? The plugs are new.........less than 40 miles on them

Thanks for the help

I had to set my timing up quite a bit after my swap from 6* to 12 - 14* advanced. May try that. If it doesnt help, maybe there is some cross fire happening or a vacuum leak.

What type of intake did you bolt on???

And what is your plug gaps set to?

You should go over your ignition system & check it out.

Your supposed to get a better burn by widening the gap...BUT

You dont have any sort of hi-po ignition ect....or wires....

So i would be gapping at .032"

60 is too wide. Although those old 301 Pontiacs did use a 60 gap from the factory, i dont understand why.

I am willing to bet that too wide of a gap is the problem though.

Well I have the Proform HEI coil and module with the MSD 6al. I Had it at 40 and now that I moved it to 60 it did help......there is no misfire.
