Choke Light

Ok, ever since i've had my car, (last december) a small choke light had been on whenever the engine was running. I finished all the body work two weeks ago, and just started driving it.

After the safety, the light was out and i thought whatever it was was fixed, but today, while mussing around the engine compartement i found the wire to the choke was unpluged. I plugged it back in, and voilla, the light came on again.

So two questions.

1. What does this light mean in the firstplace (ie choke on, Choke malfunction, etc)

2. Why could it be on all the time.

PS. My choke seems to work fine, but sometimes gets stuck closed if the engine stalls before warmup.

I have an 83' sport coupe with the 2.8L and a 2bbl rochester carb

The choke light should be on when the engine is off, and off when the engine is running. If it's on all the time you could have a bad choke heater relay, or problems with your alternator or charging circuit.
