Whats the best
Whats the best
I have a 91 RS 305TBI (completely stock). I plan on replacing the TBI crap with a carb and I was just wanting yalls opinions on what the best carb, intake, distributer combination would be. I'm not trying to make a street beast out of it or anything but I just want more than 170hp to come out of that fine looking machine. I'm also dieing to get rid of that stupid computer which I should be able to after I get rid of that TBI, right? Thanx for yalls help!

Depends what your price range is.
For around $600 you could have a nice carb setup with all new components.
Holley 4160, 600 cfm eletric choke, chrome of course.
Accel distributor with coil.
Wieand stealth intake.
A good regulator or rotary fuel pump.

The Stealth intake with a good cam like an XE262 by COMP & a reg fuel pump will be good.
Only prob is there arent many intakes made for those FI heads so you might be stuck a little. Ppl sometimes drill reg intakes to fit those heads but everyone i hear of doing that always has an oil leak after through those bolt holes.
You gonna need another distributor too.

You aren't really looking at any power gains unless there is something not working properly with what you've got now. The power limitations you have are exhaust, cam & heads, and without addressing those areas, you aren't likely to see much improvement just by replacing the TBI with carb. Gas mileage will decrease, though. The carb setup will make those changes more effective, but by itself you'll probably be disappointed in the results.

I think you will gain some power with the carb and intake, but you could gain almost as much power by using your tbi setup with a aftermarket manifold. Wieand makes stealths with egr and you could get an adaptor plate to mount the TBI unit on there.
The problem is the bolt holes above 6&5 need to be drilled but all new manifolds come with instructions on how to do this. I dont think tbi is bad. If you have about 40 free minutes you might want to read this http://www.goingfaster.com/spo/praisetbi.html
The only reason I run carbs is because thats what my cars came with although I hate the ccqjet

SSC i wish you never sent me that! Now I don't know what to do to my car! Anyway, thanks though sending me that, it did teach me alot about the tbi. But seriously I don't know what to do to my car now, i don't know what would bring out the best performance for the future modifications that i'll do. I hate to ask again but, HELP!!!

it depends on what you plan on doing later. i would start out with exhaust mod cause until you can move more air out your not going to get any more in headers and a catback system should be a good starting point and should wake up your car. after exhaust mods move on to the intake side
