Rich? What ways to adjust for it?

I just put on my Carter high volume street pump. I broke a bolt off and had a shop drill it out ($165... ouch). Got it back last night and on the way home the battery finally died. So now it runs...

I think it may be rich. I played with the choke screws a little all ready. The reason I say it is rich is because it smells like gas by the tail pipes and I think I saw a liquid comming out of the tail pipes... but being that it rained last night and the car was dead on the side of the road until I got the new battery this morning, it could be water.

Can I advance the timeing to help the burn? Right now it is at 8ATDC, but that was with the stock pump. I do not have that tool to adjust the idle screws, but I will get one if need be. I also have a air/fuel gauge that I will hook up on saturday that will tell me for sure if I am running rich or not. Just want to know my options...
