vac secondaries (kinda long)
I have a holley 600 vac secondaries and a T-5. I am using a 14x3 open element air cleaner and as it gets dirty it changes the rate at which the secs open, so i replace it about 3-4x per year . Are the K+N's more consistant?
The secondaries seem inconsistant in general though too. They seem sensitive to the temperature, the rate at which i step on the gas and the load on the car (ie whcih gear, up hill/flat/down hill). Is this normal? The carb has been rebuilt. The throttle shafts are good , the vacuum canister is good, and the secondaries move freely by hand. WOuld i be better off converting to mech secs? I drive about 20K miles a years, so i dont want to lose another 1-2 mpg, especially with the current prices

305 from 87 IROC, tossed peanut cam,
replaced with LT1 cam.
Uses gas as fast as i can pump it!

As a rule VS carbs don't work all that well with manual trannies. You could try swapping to a heavier secondary spring, might help bandaid the secondray problms. If you can't live with it, then yeah, you should switch to a DP.

Thats what i thought. I have changed the springs around quite a bit...they all work great some of the time and not so great the rest of the time! Ill have to get one of those conversion kits. I have spent more modifying this carb than it cost me to buy!
