AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!@$!@#$!@#!!!!!!!

It is ALWAYS something!

I get the parts that I needed to install this Holley in place of the q-jet. I had them "Rush" delivered by Jegs on Saturday... they arrived yesterday afternoon. I paid extra for that? Well, at least the Holley bracket was delivered too (it was on backorder and there were 62 people before me... it got sent on Monday and arrived the same time as the other stuff. Go figure).

So I put on the little studs that hold the tv and throttle cable. The stud (7/32") is to big so I'll have to drill out the cable hole a little. And the TV cable doesn't fit in it right (it twists a little naturally for some reason).

I also ordered a 90 degree fitting so I could screw it into the fuel line that came with the carb (that I had to cut and run a rubber hose because it hits the EGR valve!). The fitting is 3/8"... the fuel line is 5/16" .

If Autozone has the fitting, then I can fire it up and drive! If they don't... I may be able to fit on a line and bend it around the heater hose, but it won't really be drivable.

GOD I HOPE THIS PASSES THE E-CHECK NEXT MONTH!!!

Not to mention that I had to drill a hole in my Holley bracket so I can have a place to put the other end of the throttle spring...

I'm going to hit the parts store and Home Depot for a 90 degree fitting. I hope to fire it up by today... it'll have been a week since it last ran!

My biggest problem is the inlet to the fuel line. It is about 2" away from the heater hose. So I got a 3/8" pipe fitting that has a 90 degree bend. Right length, wrong thread. Evidently, for some dumb-*** reason, the size for the outlet is 5/8"-18 which is a tiny bit smaller then the 3/8" and a slightly different thread pattern. It is the same on my q-jet and holley inlets. It is the same diamerter/thread pattern as the fittings that come on 3/8" steel line (inverted flare). My only hope is if I can bend a steel line 90 degrees so close to the end of the line that it clears the heater hoses... This SUCKS!!!!!

be careful not to interchange pipe threads and SAE, the pipe threads are tapered adn seal on the threads and the inverted flare seals at the flare. Unless i am misunderstanding, it sounds like you are trying to mix them.
HD should have the fittings, otherwise check a regular plumbing supply store.

I have searched and scoured every hardware and autoparts store within 30 miles (seriously) to find the fittings I need!

Evidently, 5/16" is a common automotive size, but not a popular plumbing supply. It has been a real challange to fit a pump with 5/16" reverse flare inlets with a fuel filter with 1/8" pipe and finding an adapter that fits a 1/8" pipe for the pressure gauge and finally entering a 3/8 inverter flare with a 90 degree bend.

It has truly been a learning experience. I just wish there was a site the explained all the fittings and what works with what and why...

Bio- I know what you mean. Buying the parts is easy. making them actually work together is tough. It's ALWAYS cable brackets and A/T kick-down cables that everyone forgets about.

As for the fuel line- yuou know there are certain times when using short lengths of flexible line and hose clamps IS appropriate....

The individual lines coming out of each fuel bowl from the Holley are 5/16", I belive. It's only at the juction that they get a 3/8" fitting. You could always cut the short length of hard pipe from the rear fuel bowl and put in some flexible 5/16" line so you can clear the EGR, leaving the stock front line and junction in place. Then the fittings should work themselves out more easily.

Stock 3rd gen fuel line from the tank on forward right to the carb is all 3/8".
