Where can I get one, how much will it cost. I am asking for a friend, he has an 85 Z28 with the LG4, his only mod is the Hooker cat-back. He won't be getting a ram air hood for it for some time, but how much will this help, and again, where can you buy one and whats the cost?

Look for a dropped base, 14x3 unit. I believe I picked mine up from Pep Boys. It was a couple of years ago, but I think it was around $15 at the time.

I noticed a couple of tenths consistently with the open element vs. the stock single snorkle, with basically no other mods.

I bought the Edelbrock 41x3 drop base open element air cleaner from Advance Auto parts for $39.95. made a big difference over the single snorkel air cleaner.

There should be a vacuum line that ran to the TAC sensor in the intake snorkle... plug that off with a cap.

There should be a hose going from the passanger side valve cover to the air cleaner... get a $5 breather and plug that up too.

14x3" drop base (in case you ever want to put on a Performer RPM intake or 1" spacer ) works great. That should be about $20 or so at the autoparts store.

I always notice a difference when I have to stick on my single snorkle air cleaner for the day that I have to get e-tested!

Be carefull with hood clearence. I you are running a 14x3 with a 1" spacer, it will not clear the hood, or at least mine did not. I had to cut the spacer down to 1/2 inch to make it work. Just check hood clearence, you can use silly puddy or playdough. I dropped 2 tenths with that mod.

I first purchased an Edelbrock 14X3 round drop base and it would not clear all the junk at the front of the carb, preventing a good base seal. I added a 3/4" spacer and all was well. Shortly thereafter, a friend gave me an Edelbrock with K&N. It is triangular shaped and does not require a spacer. It also provides better access to the carb for adjustments without removal. I love it! The whole thing sells for 70 at Jegs.

Joey1986Z, is that the foam air cleaner? Beware and check it often. I had one on a jeep and it began crumbling apart and the carb sucked up the little pieces of fuzz. It had a hole through the element in less than six months. Never agian for me. Just watch it carefully.
