Supercharger with a q-jet

Would I be able to run a supercharger with the stock q-jet and computer to be able to make 450-500hp?

if so how cue me??!! ditch the computer and go old school and use a 750 edlebrock or holley dp(no q-jets!!) with a wieand super charger (roots type) and a engine made just for that app should make close to 400 at the rear wheel.

Future mods performer rpm air gap intake (polished) and 600 edlebrock carb, comp roller cam, and way better headsa 400 defintely in the works!

Well, Yes and No.

The more appropriate Question, Is why Would You ?

Any Charger made for Carb ( or adapted to Carb) Is going to Take massive fabrication to get to Fit In a 3rd Gen Camaro. if this Is accomplished, Why the Hell would You want to use the stock crapola ?

Wieand's prostreet supercharger model # 6502 is for q-jets with c.a.r.b. If I ran the right jets and hanger and with a high flow fuel pump would that be good for 500hp? The only reason I'm asking is because I have to pass emission where I'm at. My other option is just to run the edelbrock carb that I have and then switch back to the q-jet when I take it in.

i like your last idea alot!! but you can get edlebrock carbs (squarebore) that are 50 state legal!

I don't know what your source is, Bairs, but I suspect you're reading what you want to hear rather than what is being said (that goes for you, too, Burnout). "C.A.R.B." stands for "California Air Resources Board", which has established the most restictive standards for emissions in the US. Aftermarket parts can be "CARB-certified" as replacement or add-on parts, or may be granted an exemption (the GM HO 350 conversion has an exemption, for instance) The Wieand supercharger may be CARB-certified, but parts such as this (including Edelbrock carbs) typically have fine print that says "for pre-1975 vehicles only", or "for pre-emissions vehicles only", or something to that effect.

CARB-certified certainly does not mean "CCC certified". I would strongly suggest that you get ahold of Weiand and ask them specific questions about using it on your vehicle and if their equipment would render it "off-road use only".

If you go the "run this, emissions test that" route, then keep your CCC equipment for the emissions testing, putting it back on after removing everything that it takes to get the supercharger to work (like carb & distributor).

Bairs- I plan on doing a similar upgrade to my Malibu next year (this year I'm spending money screwding together a new 383 and finally shooting some paint on the body!).

The QJet will work fine. Even the computer controlled one will work just fine under computer control- sort of (saw one years a ago- it was the slickest little blower install I ever saw!). I remeber the main problem was all the emissions stuff- no EGR as I recall and getting all the various sensors to work with it musta been a PITA- the manifold vacuum sensor for one, finding a place top screw in the coolant temp seonsr was probably a real pain too, etc. Also, the guy had to use one of those flat triangle shaped air cleaners to fit it under the stock hood.

I agree with the above suggestion about calling up Weiand for some help. My Malibu has no emissions stuff on it to get in the way of my install and yes, I'll still be using the QJet.
