should i swap a carb instead of tpi?

hey guys i was wondering what you think of swapping an edelbrock 600 cfm and airgap intake on my lb9 305 instead of the tpi.
the entire engine combo is retrofitted into an 86 442 with a 200 4r and 3.73 rear, using all parts from a z28, accept the wiring, and fuel pump(used an inline from nos) it has an adjustable reg, and a thermomaster chip. the engine idles at 900rpm, and doesnt get the kind of mileage i thought the injection would get(only about 20mpg) other wise it runs good,no troublecodes, and passed emissions with flying colors.

my friends car runs a edelbrock 600 and it runs smooth and clean and kicks my cars butt in mileage with the same displacement, but bigger cam, because i dont like the inline pump, and dont feel like paying 300 dollars for a intank, im thinking of doing this,
do you think i will pass emissions with no egr, computer, a 600cfm, and a vacuum advance? i doubt it. what are the pros and cons? i guess this goes along with the great debate, carb vs efi

I would definately go carb.
Sounds like you want to go fast now.

Don't go with an intank pump no matter which way you go.

I have no idea about NY emissions in your area. Talk to your local friends about that deal.

good luck

if you want top end hp and and hp period for half the price and hassle go carb its wayyyy beter than lousy tpi. tpi requires a lot of time and money! it always screws up and is very very expensive! stock tpi sucks! upgraded tpi is grate but again costly!

Car: 94 Z28
Engine: LT1 w/ headers, catback, CAI, tune
Transmission: 4L60E
Axle/Gears: 3.23s
Well, I ditched my TPI and the 305 it was on at the same time, and threw in a 350 w/ Vortec heads, Perf RPM intake, 750 vac sec carb, headers, and a 218/224 cam.

With no emissions equipment on the car at all, except the $99 Catco 3" cat, it passed the IM240 or whatever dyno emissions test. Passed for the standards of the 305 TPI I assume, since that was what was still listed on the sticker and I didn't tell them otherwise. Passed w/ ease actually...

I had initially tried to see what it would do with no cat on it all (well, gutted stocker) and it passed on all tests except the CO test I believe it was, where it was like 4 times the limit. The catco cat dropped to a mere fraction of the limit for that test, and even chopped the other tests numbers down some for good measure.
