I want to buy a hand vacuum pump and also a vacuum guage. These things aren't as cheap as I thought they would be. :rolleyes
I noticed the hand pump has a vacuum guage on it. It's the pump with the reservoir attached to it for bleeding brakes. Is there some way I can make this or some other hand pump double as a vacuum guage, so I can use it to create a certain vacuum, and also to measure existing vacuum at vac hoses ?

Thanks

I bought a hand vacuum pump at Pep Boys for $15. Had the vacuum guage mounted on the front of the pump cylinder and a neat little tire-style valve so it will hold the vacuum reading until you release it.

Thanks for the lead. $15 sounds more reasonable than $34, which is what a pump cost at Advance Auto.

But are you able to hook a vac line up to the port on the pump and get a reading on the dial ?? In other words, can you get the pump to function as a regular vacuum guage ??

And the answer is.... YES. I got the MightyVac hand pump, which claims it can be used as a passive vac guage also ! $25 at Autozone. The brand is OEM on the package, but MightyVac is printed on the pump.
