What air cleaner looks the best?
What air cleaner looks the best?
Here's a nice not too technical question for you guys. Now it's kind of a dumb question, but I'm wondering what kind of air cleaner/valve covers you all are running. See, I want something kind of high tech looking, I'm kinda getting sick of seeing plain jane chrome air cleaners and valve covers. (Not trying to offend anyone, I love the chrome on my truck) I just want something a little bit different...
Any suggestions/ideas?

try the K & N cover that allows the freer breathing...
I think the no logo edelbrock elite valve covers/air cleaner look sharp. But holley makes a dual inlet air cleaner that looks sweet. I cant think of the part number off hand but just go to www.holley.com/ or www.edelbrock.com/

Forgive me, but I keep my hood closed most of the time. If it's open I'm working on it, and I don't open it for anyone, if they want to know what I got it's gonna cost them. If I have money to spend I want speed. A nice set of valve covers doesn't improve the E.T. or the MPH or the MPG. Sorry, I'm just a pure racer at heart.

yeah but some of us like show too. i own the chrome moroso valve covers, which are nice and stay pretty clean, but im begining to not like the way they have writing on them. nothing else under my hood has writing, and i hate stickers and crap that come with nearly every high poerformance part you buy. i take the sleeper approach, at least until i dropped in this engine. when I pull up next to the guy he cant help but wonder what I've got under my hood since its ratling his windows so bad he thinks its an earth quake. the he looks, and whoa, its all chromed and pretty and you cant tell WHAT im running since its so shined up and jammed with good looking stuff. even my carb is painted red and shiny and match the block. it looks sweet.
FlashGTA, yeah, I know what you mean on that one, but that's what the truck is for. I plan on eventually showing the Camaro, so I wanted something a little bit flashier...
I saw some valve covers that looked nice, the Summit fabricated covers, but then I decided $200 was way too much to spend on some valve covers....

I don't give a rat's rear end about how something looks, I care if it works and more specifically if it works better than anything else. To me, the best-looking part is the one that works the best. There is no chrome under my hood, because chrome parts have a nasty habit of leaking.
I run a stock HO dual snorkel breather with a K&N element and a 1" spacer to get it up off the top of the carb, and stock 85-86 L98 valve covers with the drippers ground most of the way down and the thick ROL gaskets so they clear my Comp 1102 roller rockers.

I really like those K&N carbon fiber valve covers, they look COOL. And while I'm on the K&N kick, I like their air cleaner with the cleaner element on the top and the sides, sorta different.

Yeah I have the K&N Xstream air flow lid w/ a Summit 14x3" K&N-copy filter under it (the elements match 100% perfectly BTW). I think it looks kinda cool, definitely different. The guy doing my emissions tests commented that he thought it looked sweet. I bought it for more power though, and nothing else under my hood looks even remotely nice...

I gave up a long time ago trying to make my engine compartment look pretty! I go with whatever makes me faster...
Side note, do those K&N lids allow any more air in if you have a stock hood?

I run an edelbrock open air element.... it's the tri-angular one with a chrome mesh grid.... it looks sweet, and flows great! I have the ducts cut out of my 83 fibreglass hood, so you can see the edelbrock air cleaner when the hood is shut... it rules. If you hold your hand over the duct when I hit the gas it sucks your hand on to the hood.
i got a set of Moroso gold valvecovers. the anatized gold was scrached, so i sand blasted the covers and panted them chevy engin orange to match the block. topped it off with crome moroso breathers and T-Bolts and 10 inch no name air cleaner. it looked realy racey looking. it was the exactly the look i was goin for. i plan on doin this on my next build up, but with a 14X3 Moroso chrome air cleaner.
P.S. i hate lots of chrome

I like the edelbrock chromed ones with the edelbrock signature on 'em with the same thing on the 14" open element... I also like the moroso ones... maybe I should break out the TIG and weld up some aluminum "thirdgen.org" ones

i like very little chrome on a car. My camaro is half white half primer right now. I guess i am old school: All about the go, who cares about the show?

future mods:
completely done over suspension, black paint with flames, Hurst shifter, dakota digital gauge package, procharger supercharger.

I show my car at various local shows, and I am an avid supporter of clean, chromed engines. It may not add horses, but hey, those of us with 305's dont need to worry about that anyway. Besides, this thread is about what type of stuff to use, not why some of us dont use it. I say go with Edelbrock air cleaner and valve covers, if you want something different, get some of the Moroso anodized ones that come in different colors. A pretty engine makes for envious Rustang guys.
