Internet fraud!!!

Watch out! I posted to sell my 89 Formula in the classifieds section for $3800 and got a response from someone saying that they would send me a check for $7500 and wanted me to wire the difference to a shipping contact. I was never able to get any info on the interested party other than his name Paul Limar. They sent me a cashiers check for $7500. Turns out that it is drawn on a nonexistant account. I filed a complaint with the F.B.I. and they said that it is happening all over on all kinds of high ticket items. They are counting on no one questioning you when you cash it, especially if you are from a small town. Then you wire the difference back to them and they disappear. But you are responsible for the face value of the check! They get away scott clean and Citibank or Bank One come after you or your back comes after you for the funds! Be super careful. If they won't give you contact info don't believe them that they are a third-gen fan. All they want is the money. F.B.I. said that they are based out of Nigeria and are drawing cashiers checks on a Delta Airlines cashiers check account when an airline cannot sell cashiers checks. It is all bogus! At least I didn't get the check cashed. I got responses from a Paul Limar and a Jackson Robert so if either of those two contact you play along and contact the authorities!

I got a similar email in regards to an IROC I put up on 3rd gen for sale. Guy claims he is from London, said he will send me a cheque for the car, plus shipping, and asked for my contact info. I was hesitant and DIDNT give it to him. I did ask for info about him, and he never sent any. I believe he is going by the name Patton B. S. I'm glad I didnt send my info out. I thought it sounded fishy, a guy willing to spend more on the shipping than on the car. So beware, maybe this guy is straight up, but after reading this post, I have my doubts... Just thought I'd let you guys know the possibility that several thirgen members might be getting swindled.... Good luck...

i got an email from the Patton guy also. he said that he wanted to buy some of my parts, which at first sounded really good. the parts totaled $385. he said he was going to a MONEY ORDER to me for $430 which included shipping. not a check, but an actual money order...dont know if its crap or not. he wanted me to send them out to his damn shipping agency, but i insisted that i send them the way i want to, since i ship items oversees all the time to a friend, i have a connection that i can send stuff pretty cheap.

needless to say, ever since i wasnt going to use his shipping agency crap, i never recieved the money order.

it sounded legit at the time, with the money order, and just enough money to cover the parts and and shipping. not a thousand $$ more then the price.

this all happened a few months ago, now i see all this, makes me happy i never got the money order

anyone interested in some parts

Man, there are some truly sick, lazy, and useless people out there. A person is pathetic enough when they screw/try to screw you over to your face let alone having to do it over seas from behind a key board. :nono:

Can these idiotic outlanders not read? Do they not know we're on to them? Stories like this are even on the news now.

(pskel350, your hood scoop really looks cool.)

Thanks

i have recieved a fake cashier's check from this guy. i never sent out any parts. For obvisous reason, i cannot write very much online here....but in short the IFCC is investigating this scam extremly in depth.

For anyone that has been apart of this scam, please contact the FBI and the IFCC to file your claim, as more claims are filed the better.

Be careful and happy selling

This is happening too much...mine was from "Susan Paton" and its the same story, she was in London and wanted to send me too much money etc. Another thing was she made it seem real urgent, and never even saw a picture of my car before making the offer.

I have noticed one thing though...most of the time the closing of the email uses the word "Regards" somewhere. Maybe its nothing, but either way be careful

BTW mine's still goin on, as I'm sure she will email me again...Is there anything I can do to f*ck her.

i would be hesitant to even receive the fake check if one of these people contacted me. I'd rather not have a scam artist have my address or any information about me! i'm all for screwing them over and turning them in, but i'm even more for protecting myself
