Very nice....I was going to get that one but I'm on a budget and got the plastic window instead. I need you help though!!!!

I installed my top today. Got the old one off and the new one bolted down and the sides glued.

Problem is I cant get the back part glued down. I used DAP adhesive cement (the kind you brush on). It just would not get tacky enough for the trimmed flaps of canvas to stick.

I brushed it on both material and metal frame and pressed it down and used clamps to hold it. But it would not hold.

What kind of glue did you use??? How did you get it to stick??

3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive is what I used. Just clamp that back bow for about two hours and make sure you clean ALL the old glue off. I used, again, 3M Adhesive remover in the spray can and an old credit card to scrape the old glue off. best of luck.

Thanks alot for the reply.

Did you find that 3M product at a chain parts store (i.e autozone/pepboys) or something like a hardware store?

Also...I am using about 8 big clamps. I thought about getting a bunch of smaller wooden clothes clamps to make sure I got uniform pressure. I was worried about the contact area between where you place your clamps.

I am guessing that the 3M adhesive is tacky enough that the material will stick when you press it down. Is that true?

Man....thanks for all the help. Its kind of cool having a brand new top on isn't it??

I got all my supplies at Advance Auto. Autozone also carries the 3M stuff. The 3M adhesive will hold the fabric pretty well on it's own but I clamped it and let it sit for two hours anyway. The only thing I found was that some spots wanted to bubble up a bit so I was constantly moving the clamps around. I only used six clamps(two large, two small and two medium) and got the results I wanted. The #5 bow was BY FAR the hardest part of the whole install. LMK how it turns out.

BTW did ya like my new black top or the old tan one better?

Oh yeah Matthew*if you can* after you glue that #5 bow let it sit overnight before doing anything else. Don't even try to latch the back into the tonneau for several hours if possible.

I am not sure if this is totally necessary but I had the luxury of time and I sure as hell did not wanna see the back bow come loose.

Rock on bro

I put the Tan Top on my deep red '91 b/c I thought it would be cooler in the summer when the top is up.

Cool...I bought the supert trim adhesive today. $17.....WOW! Oh well..guess I saved about 300 for the install labor by doing it myself.

How did you spray without getting adhesive everywhere?

Oh....one more thing; did you spray any glue on top of bow number 5. I thought it was only underneathe, where the top flap folds under. Just wanted to be sure.

MATTHEW STOP! I don't know what you bought but the 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive($5.99) comes in a squeeze tube, not a can. The Adhesive Remover came in a can and was easy to spray on. Please don't use spray adhesive-it won't work well and will get all over your new top.

*wiping sweat off my brow* Geez...thank *** I read this and asked you those questions. I bought the 3M super TRIM adhesive. Yes..it is a spray. I almost decided to try it yesterday afternoon. Thank *** I didn't.

Well..cool. Guess I'll just return it and get the weatherstrip adhesive. Yeah...if it squeezes out of a tube, the application will be MUCH easier and a lot less messy. Damn...close one.

Thanks alot. I am going to finish this thing up this weekend. I will try and post a pic too when I finish.

No, glass rear windows are a little smaller in area than the stock plastic. I believe this is necessary because the glass window tops fold differently in that area than the plastics.

Don't you need to remove the glass window to fold down this new top?

wow...finally got the back flaps glued down as well as the front trimmed ang glued and reinstalled the trim. Seems to be sticking just fine. But now, I think it may be too tight it the back as I really had to press on the 5th bow to get the pin to latch.

I'm worried about it coming loose over time. Does adjusting the downstop help take some tension out of bow # 5?

Don't worry, mine was pretty tight too. It will stretch out over the next week or so and should fit in the latch a good deal easier. Let's see some pics!

Hey Graboid.

Nice looking top.

Is there ANY possibility you can take some better pictures and post them? That one pic is kinda dark. Also, you said you'd let the pic do the talking...it LOOKS good and like a great fit...BUT are you happy with it?

I have 2 '88 convertibles and one needs a top NOW. I really like the idea of the glass window---- takes care of the mildew/cancer issue forever..plus you can (as you did) tint it with film.

So, how about some clearer like in daylight pics and a few comments on your satisfaction.

Re: installed top with glass window

I'm going to install my top my self. Now that I see tops with glass for our cars I think I want to go with the glass. My only concern is that the install might be more difficult because the top has a glass window over the plastic. Dose anyone have any information about my concern. Also how do the glass tops fold down given that glass dosent bend.

I talked with Vic at TopsOnLine (where Graboid bought his top) and he said that the window is just a little smaller height wise than a vinyl window and that the first four or five times you drop the top, you need to "assist" the top in where it should fold. He said after 4 or 5 times, it should have a 'memory' of the fold point and work without problems from then on.

I am looking forward to a reply from Graboid with more pics..plus, hopefully, a few comments on how well he likes or dislikes the top. Once I hear some positives, I am ordering one. Have an upholstery guy here locally that says he will put it on for $240....as long as it is an EZ On Top or a Robbins

It is ok. The fit is good, but not perfect. But hey, we all know there is no such thing like a perfect thirdgen camaro ragtop. I would recommend it, since you cannot finbd a cheaper one with glasswindow. I would never buy a top with the plastic window
