So if our middle button releases the top
So if our middle button releases the top
What releases the power trunk pulldown?
I've finally figured out why it never powered on (fuse) and why the fuse was out, but was wondering if ours ever came with a switch to release it like on the other thirdgen's.
If not, is it relatively easy to wire in? I'll have a trunk button after my 4th gen dash swap, so I could use that button for it.

I read those links, but it was talking about release only hatch units (from what I gather). Mine is a power pulldown, but I was just curious if there's no release button.
I'll go look at it and get pics when I get a chance.

Correct. ASC used the hatch release wiring and relay for the tonneau release. But there is nothing preventing you from adding a trunk solenoid release, switch and relay yourself (as I did). I got a trunk release from a 80's Caprice. The switch was located in the glove compartment. I put the switch in my center console. The trunk release solenoid is simple to install, just one 10mm screw attaches it where the standard manual release goes. There is just one hot wire running from the relay to the solenoid. Don't forget to add the roughly 10" grounding wire from the 10mm screw to the grounding location on the body just below the trunk pull-down unit. The solenoid is isolated from ground by the guides in the pull-down channels.

very important to remember thingy: do not pop trunk and release tonneau cover at the same time unless you like gouges in your paint , almost nailed mine but good .

i also did the same thing lonsal did.
first i moved my tonneau cover switch to the cover itself.. like the 92s had... its alot more convenient
on your trunk latch, when you turn the key, the key just pulls on a cable.
this cable loops around to the latch.. when the latch is released, it triggers the power pulldown. if your struts are weak, and were to leave the trunk on the latch, when the power latch got to the top, it would just click and pull it back down.
the electric release is exactly like the cable release.. it actually connects to the lock and has the cable... but on the latch where the cable pulls it, theres also a solenoid... this 'noid pulls just like if the cable did it.
so all you have to do is give the solenoid power using a relay.

Which is likely the reason that both a trunk release and a tonneau release were not installed at the factory.
