Siderail weather stripping?
Ive loooked around and have not had any luck finding these pieces. Actually, its time to replace all the weather stripping to get a good window seal (side-rails and also the piece that extends from the side mirrors and up the pillar)
I thought about just buying the 1-piece weatherstripping for hardtop cars and then installing it as one piece and cutting it where necessary at the side rails.
ANyone else thought of this? Would it fit the same way?

Source for stripping
I thought about buying the coupe stripping and cutting it but decided that it probably would not work right. The ends of the weather stripping are sealed and designed to fit together with other parts... The cutup striping you would have if you bought and cut to fit would not have those finished ends. Even if it worked it would look half- assed...
Try HERE to get the stripping you need.
Good Luck!

yeah....its a bummer that the usual sites dont have the siderail strips. I thought about the ends not being sealed, and considered using a little silicone or something. You're right about it not looking great, but if it at least does what its supposed too, it'll keep me safer from water damage. I get air and water leaks around the window seals all the time......
I dont know....I'll just have to feel this one out.

I bought ALL the stripping that goes around the windows about 1.5 years ago. I've only installed that The stuff right behind the windows...
By side rail strips are you referring to the horizontal strip where the top of the window meets the vert top?
Have you looked into a window adjustment to solve the leak problem? could be that if you adjusted the regulator to push the window a fraction of an inch higher it might fix the problem. I believe there is a side to side adjustment that can also be done on that rail to get better contact with the window...

YEah....the side rail is the piece actually attached to the topfram and lies horizontally (or parallel to the top of the window). I found that YearOne.com has them for the LEFT side only though.
Mt passenger side strip is kind of fuct. It has a tear in it and air leaks are horrible.
I've tried adjustments with the side rail without much luck. I think I'm gettng leaks because I keep having to adjust the upstop to keep the top tight due to squeaks. Whenever I make it tighter, I get a gap between the separate pieces of weatherstripping at the front window corner.
I'm replacing my top in a week or two. I'm going to move all the upstops back to normal when i put the new top on and start over. I must be doing something wrong.

DANG DANG!
Matthew91-Z28,
I did not realize that the passenger side side rail weather strip had been discontinued! I feel fortunate to have bought before they were gone! I found the drivers side in two places, but both sites said the passenger side had been discontinued.
You might still find some. There was a guy at a Cheverolet Dealership in North Georgia somewhere who was aparently VERY GOOD at finding hard to find parts within their system. I'm pretty sure it was a VERT owner who mentioned him in one of these posts. Maybe somebody will remember and he can be tracked down...
I WONDER - would the weatherstripping that goes in the same place on a T-Top work? It might be worth looking to see if they are similar...
Before you start messing with upstops etc., What condition are your door henges in? If you haven't already done them that might help with some of the problems with stuff not mating up...

Try FBodyMotorsports as well
I need the piece that goes behind the window and secured in a groove trim plate. It's ripped from the bottom, up halfway, however small leaks behind the door have been minimal. Past problems that irk me are near the top front sides, where the stripping is seperated, and sounds like part of your problem. I stick paper towel between the closed gap and it works as well in a pinch
Try different material, only really needed during major down pours or an extended drizzle session

I've compared the T-top seal to the seal on my vert, they are very close. I wouldnt be surprised if they were identical, aside of the area where you'd have to cut the T-top seal. The part where the glass seals looks the same and it doesnt seal real well either as the 2 pieces really dont look like they are made for one another.

I think the verdict is t-roofs have always been 'leaky' by and large, more then sunroof/Astroroof/moonroofs and convertibles a close second hehe
Correct if wrong though

sorry...just getting back to this post after a week or so. Thanks for all the info. As far as door hinges....they need replacement. I was wondering if that might be part of the problem.
Billspeed.....I didnt think about paper towels
. I think i may try to use a 1/4" sliver of weather stripping in there instead and see if that helps.
No more passenger side weatherstripping!!! Yikes.....I'll call Georgia and see what i can come up with.
Thanks guys...appreciate the info!

In summers past, I kept napkins, or paper towels for checking fluids, catching the spilled pop can, etc.
For those moments when there is torrential rain, it does come thru rather fast and I found a towel below on the floor and paper towel stuck above certainly aids. As most know, if you use power sprays for car washing yourself (I avoid the brushes! hehe) Covering those frontal leak areas is also a good bet. I found spray leaks in the pass side more, funky enough
