Vert ground effects
Hi,
Just thought I'd post some info.....
My 91 RS Vert was in an accident a few weeks ago and I'm having one heck of a time finding parts for it.
In my travels I found that they added extra bracing in the door, and having added extra bracing in the body... Fenders from coupes will work, but only with modification. The doors from a coupe will work as well, but you won't have the extra bracing which may cause problems down the road.
Then we get to the ground effects.....
The front and rear bumper covers are the same, but the ground effects from the front tire to the rear tire are completely different than those of coupes.
The ground effects are not as big as those found on coupes.
Here are the part numbers from the left side of my 91 RS vert.
10118433 Left Rear Quarter
10118437 Left Rocker Panel
10118435 Left Door molding (found on the bottom of the door)
So for all those vert owners out there.....
I'd say if you ever come across these parts... snag them up ASAP.
I can't find any anywhere and I don't know what to do at this point. I've heard the ground effects from a coupe will work, but it will look like wearing a size 6 shoe on one foot and a size 10 on the other foot.
Hopefully this will be some useful info to you.

The doors are completely the same. If you found extra bracing, it's not from the convertible conversion. Also the fenders and ground effects are the same thing. ASC modified the coupe pieces to fit. So there is no different part number for vert pieces, you have to get the coupe pieces and modify them the same way ASC did.
The front fenders have the bottom cut off with a bracket welded on, and the ground effects have various mods to let them clear the braces.
Do a search and you'll find that very few things were vert specific, most were modified on the fly from coupe pieces.

The convertible side gfx were indeed modified coupe pieces (narrower to clear the added bracing along the pinch rail that ASC added), but I believe that they did have different part numbers from GM when those parts were still available.
I have always figured that it wouldn't be very difficult to modify standard coupe pieces to fit a convertible (with the exception of the side spoilers, which had no coupe analogue).
I've snatched up some convertible specific parts from boneyards and e-bay over the past several years, but I definitely don't see near as many on e-bay as I did, say 4-5 years ago.

Sorry guys... my bad.
From what I am now understanding.... yes the parts were changed, but only the fender and rocker molding. Everything else remains the same.
I pulled the rear fender ground effects from a 92 coupe today and ran the numbers through GM parts direct and they had no match.
So I'm begining to think part numbers really don't mean much on these cars, or at least a far as ground effects go.
The part numbers are.... 10193203 and 10193202
All that really matters is that I found one part I'm looking for to fix my baby and another part to keep as a just in case.
I got lucky that both were in pristine condition. Only a little bit of sanding and ready for primer and paint.
And I walked away with both parts for under $14. Woo hooo!!!!
