bad plastic
hey the plastic window on my top is shot...the sun has bleached it so bad i can't even see through it...
does anyone know a cheap way of fixing it? most shops around town want a good $600 to replace the top, but my top is good, it's just the window that needs to be replaced...has anyone ever heard of someone actually cutting out the window and stitching in a new one into the old top?
help is GREATLY appreciated here, as the window on the car is one of the only bad things on the car, it just takes so much away from it's looks

I have this issue as well. $600 for a new top is a great bargain for a new top and once you get upholsterers to quote you what it will take to replace the clear plastic, getting a new top makes more sense.
I would JUMP on the cost of 600 bucks to put a new top on my car (that may simply be the labor to put on a new on is my guess).
My top is pictured below... it's tolerable for now but still something I plan on addressing:

I had the window replaced in mine many years ago by a local auto upholstry shop. At the time it was a little over $100 to sew in a new window and repair a small hole in the top. I'm still using the original top, now 16 yrs old.

even if the top isnt in bad condition, if its losing some of its tension or if it curls up above the windows, its all downhill from there... you might as well just jump on the chance to get it done right... mine was perfect when i bought the car and within 2 years it became utterly destroyed... it looks like a parachute when im going down the freeway, the window is ripping itself out... everything is wrong with it... i dunno, its entirely up to you. it can be done

I'd gladly pay 100 to swap out my rear window but then again, I was ready to pay 600 for a new top.

The glass top is different. The window has to be smaller for the glass one to work properly. No one can just sew in a glass one.
