Trying to make a decision on which convertible would be a better investment a 1992 Convertible Pontiac Trans Am or a 1992 Convertible Chevrolet Z28 Heritage edition?

I believe there are only 600 and some odd '92 T/A convertibles. Not sure on how many Heritage Edition Z28 convertibles there are though...try Camarosource.ca and I'm sure you'll find the answer, that site has all kinds of production numbers and odds and ends sort of things...

About 1200 z28 and iroc z verts. 663 TA verts.
I am not sure about how many heritage ones there were, but I was under the impression that the Trans/am convertibles were the rarest.
I could be wrong though.

Z28 vert is an awsome car, so is the T/A. You really can't go wrong with either.
Kelly blue book on z28 vert in excelent conditions and every option is
5,600bucks.
TA vert is about 5600 with all the options and same mileage.
So they are about the same price.
I used 10000 miles on the car (then thousand).

The best way to determine what you want is checking the mileage and condition. Buy the one in better condition.

There's no such thing as a '92 IROC-Z

And I'm sure that there were not too many Heritage convertibles made, it may or may not be as many as the T/A...both are very rare from what I know

1992 Camaros with the Heritage Appearance Package (8,197 produced)

1992 1,254 were Convertible Z28's

I don't know how many 1992 Convertible Heritage were produced.

I figured that the last year for iroc was 89 (or 90?), however thirdgen.org's productions numbers for 92 have it listed as z28 and IROC.
I think thats not totally true, but thats whats listed so I just posted it.

You could guess at the number of heritage z's by saying about 10% of total production got the heritage package, therefore 10% of vert production received them. 10% of 1200 would be about 120.

Again this would be a guess.

Are you looking at one of the heritage cars that is/was on e-bay? E-bay just had a 16k mile car on that didn't sell.

Although I prefer firebirds IF I were faced with such a delemma I would take the Z28 HERITAGE Convertible... If it was without the Heritage package I would take the Trans Am due to rarity.

The Heritage package is suposed to bring double of the same car without it.

If seriously looking at the two cars I would definately make sure the Camaro IS honestly a Heritage car, and not a Z28 with Stripes....

Convertible
Value From | Z28 | Z28 Heritage | T/A
Edmunds |$4,883 | NA | $3,613
KBB |$6,280 | NA | $6,430
NADA |$8,162 | $17,500 | $8,675
Vehix |$7,350 | NA | $7,825

THere ya go...

John

Boy I sure wouldn't pay double for a Heritage. I think that it was just a stripes and badges kit that made it different.

If you TRUELY want a car that will become an investment, I'd look into the 1990 IROC-Z convertibles...probably a 5spd if you want to go all out...

BlueZee28,

I agree with you on that one. The '90 is cross between the old and the new. Plus there weren't many produced. I think a lot of people like the idea of having an IROC plus you have the new dash and airbag. Also, the 5-speeds are a blast to drive.

Well I found out the 92 Z28 is not equipped with the heritage edition, so I went with the 92 T/A convertible. Well fellas, I must say I like both the T/A and the Z28. Now I have an 89 IROC vert and a 92 T/A vert, one mass air one speed density. No complaints but thank you to everyone who posted and gave me more knowledge on Third gens. When I get the T/A I will post pics of both cars together.

Men like the TA??? What are you trying to say???

I get chicks in the car every time I pass by one! They all wanna ride in the "corvette" LOL.

I like the TA, but if I had a chance to get a z28 heritage edition vert, I would have to go with it.

Their value is the same, so you're good with either one!

I just dissed the AC on mine (I had to), and I tossed it as far away as possible!

if you look under the clasic car prices in NADA a Heritige Z-28 convertible is listed from 11,000 to 17,000. thats far more than any convertible TA I've ever seen.

NADA is the only place that I found that called out the Heritage Edition. I tried KBB, Edmunds, & Vehix too.

Yes there were Heritage Verts, there are a few on the boards, about as many Formula 350 convertibles on the boards....

I wouldnt trade tho, I don't want a 305
