Rollcage "help" in a vert!

I want to put in some kind of rollcage in my vert, for security, handling, and rigidity. I planed on making it a two seater anyways, and I hate the feeling of not having much rollover protection.

Jegs sells 4pt cage for about 120 bucks. Its a basic set, but it meets my requirements.

I am just wondering on the dang fit with the dang top.

How much would you think, a shop would charge to rig up a cage???

Should I do it myself, or maybe have friends with welders help me??

I am looking for suggestions of what the best way would be to tackle this! Where to buy parts/or cage!

Thanks.

I dont think anyone makes a cage for a vert. Your gonna have to have a shop that makes cages for cars make one custom for you. Im having a 6 point cage put in my vert soon. Its gonna be all custom.

I thought auto power roll bars fit our cars? Search them. I e-mailed them about shipping to Canada and they said it would be cheaper to get someone to make one locally.

any of em should fit just fine. Mine had a Comp. Eng hoop and I got the rest of the bars bent at a local shop.

The hoop comes with extra long legs so you have to trim em anyways. So you can get a snug fit as close to the top as you like. Here are some pic's of what the car use to look like.

I have an appt. at the end of march to have a custom 8 pt cage put in. I plan on printing out some pics from tpi 383's cage to give the chassis guy an idea on how i want the top bars off the main hoop. In your case if your not gonna use the back seats, then depending how fast you want to go i would say at least do a 6pt.

I don't know of any VERT specific.

ANY of the KITS will work. You have to cut the hoop legs to the right length anyways. The rear bars will be straight in a pre made kit. I personally don't like the look of the straight bars in the back on a vert. So I mocked these up with electrical conduit took em to a local shop and had em bent for me.

I put a autopower 4 point bolt in into my 4th gen vert and it fit perfect and came with a in/out harness bar.

3 bolts per leg in the floor and a tab under the bolt at the top of the sail panel for the stabilizer.

to that I added a diagonal from the back of the driver's head to the passenger lower upright also bolts in out for track use and a pair of rear braces from the back of the bar down to the cross brace behind the rear seats, also bolt in/out. the seat back must be out for the rear supports other bolt ins to fit.

I'm hoping it will be the right size for a 3rd gen or at least minor mods to make it fit. Does anyone know how different the third gen body configuration is to a 4th gemn?
I'm thinking pretty close.

Not really close at all. I took some measurements of my friends 4thgen vert with the Wolf bolt in cage, and it wasn't close enough for me to consider trying it in my thirdgen.

Re: Rollcage "help" in a vert!

I never got the 3rd gen. I got the 4th gen coupe, hated it and sold it.

BTW, I have an Autopower 4 point 4th gen hoop with harness bar, diagonal from driver's head to pass floor and 2 rear supports to the (4th gen) cross brace, all the additional bars bolt in and out so it cam be run as a basic hoop in street mode and 6 point w harness and petty bar for the track.

For sale, pretty cheap, the shipping will sting a bit though.

Re: Rollcage "help" in a vert!

I picked up a 91 vert this week and checked the autopower main hoop. it "would" fit but the legs are too long. need to cut the legs down and reweld the pads back on.

I will prolly call autopower first for some consulting.

I/Oportracing.com has the fitment guide for autopower on thier site.

the 3rd gen specific 4 point starts at about $375 and about $400 w a horizontal cross brace that goes in and out.
