Speed limiter

I know that the TBI cars have a speed limiter at around 110mph or very close to that. Well, my car seems to run just FINE till about 90mph then it jerks like the motor hits a brick wall. Did the convertibles come with a lower set speed limiter in it do to them being a convertible? Thanks. Adam :-)

No.. it was the same speed limiter as the hard tops. Mine kicks in around 110-115. Depending on your momentum, that limit can be violent.

Easily bypassed...

TBI speed limiter bypass

I developed it, but too lazy to do a full writeup, so Bradley did WAY back in the day, when we first started TGO.

Anybody know if Bradley is still around?

I discovered that the speed limiter existed the same way...
I'm winning! I'm winning!..BOG...WTF!!! I'm losing...wait, here come the power again...BOG...Losing again...Power again...BOG....

Bouncing off of the speed limiter made me investigate what happened the next day. Didn't take too long for me to find a way to counteract it!

Haven't had any reason to check my GTA (TPI), to see if there is any speed limiter, or if it can be couteracted.

I don't see any way a carb'd car can be speed limited, OEM.

114mph exactly is when it kicks in

and the only way to have it removed on a sd tpi car is a chip... because its bad for hate tranny and it hits code when you try it

gm sucks lol
i lost to a damn honda civic going to the races, thats when i noticed this. i was doin like 80mph and he flew past me, i punch it and ablitherate him then i hit 114mph and bog... **** and the civic blows by me again

idk y they even limited it if the new ls1 motors are only limited to 160mph

I guess I'll ask the people on the TBI boards. I was hoping that it would of been limited even more since it was a vert so it wouldn't be somthing wrong with the motor. But I guess it's something else. Thanks guys! Adam :-)

If the stock speed limiter hits at around 115mph. And my car stumbles at 90mph and they did not change the stock speed limiter for the convertibles. Then there is something else wrong with my car. Because the motor shuts down at about 90mph not 115mph. So doing the speed limiter mod would do me no good. Adam :-)

But, in the mod I listed, it wouldn't matter if it was 50 or 150...It kills the signal to the ECM, setting off the CEL, once you flip the switch back, the CEL goes off, and everything is fine. Even with the CEL on, it doesn't affect the car whatsoever.

I'm still not understanding. The whole purpose for that mod is to get by the speed limiter right. Well according to everyone else it is at 115mph. My car has a problem with getting by at 90mph. So that means there is something wrong with the car to not go past that 90mph mark to go faster to hit the 115mph speed limiter. Now whether some one adjusted the speed limiter at 90mph on my car or there is something else wrong. I don't know. And sense I don't think some one would go through the trouble to burn a chip to get the speed limiter lower. I am leaning to something else being wrong with the car. Adam :-)

How does the car react at 90? Runs normally? Just no speed increase? Or does the engine shut down, then give back in, like at 80-85 again?

That's how my RS responded. It hit 115, then the engine power shut down, the car dropped to like 110, then the engine kicked back in, until I hit 115, and it shut down again. Over and over, bouncing off the speed limiter.
