Can anyone tell me why with my windows up at highway speeds the rear of my top keeps pooping up if i let the windows down it goes back. before i get on the highway the top appears to be pretty snug.

Sounds like there is something screwed up with the release switch. Maybe the pin that goes into the hole on the tonneu cover is broken?
the pin is there and like i said it seems pretty secure when i am not moving. In fact it is amlost impossible to lift up after i push the top down

Is it actually popping out of the hole, or is the top coming up off the frame itself? If it pops out of the hole, I don't see how it would go right back down in there, especially if it's latched like you said.
I had the pop up problem on my Vette, but like I said, it would come up out of the hole, but not latch back in unless I got out and pushed it down.

The rear of the top wants to pop up due to the way the air flows over the roof. The sudden drop in the shape of the back of the roof causes a low air pressure zone. Low air-pressure naturally wants to be neutral, which means basically "filled" or equalized. When the air pressure inside the car is greater than the lower pressure outside the rear of the top, it pops up the roof to equalize it. Opening your windows reduces the interior air pressure (drawn out by the air passing over the open windows) and your roof drops back down.
The only way to overcome this tendency is by the sheer strength of the rear roof release latch. It's ability to hold the roof down must be greater than the low air pressure pulling up on it. If it's not, then up comes the roof.
Since this is happening, that is where your problem is.
When the roof is down and latched, look under the tonneau cover to see what it looks like. You will need to drop the rear seat backs and may need a flashlight.

As you can see, the roof pin goes into the hole. The pin is "home" when the cotter pin snaps into the pin's groove, thus holding it in place.
- Check to see this is happening. The cotter pin must be fully seated in the roof pin's groove or it won't hold.
- If the cotter pin is fully seated and the roof still pops up, then the roof pin's groove is likely worn. The groove must be perfectly squarely cut. If it's even slightly worn round from use, it will not hold very well. Depending on how badly it's worn is why some roofs pop up only when going against the wind at 100mph and there's a gust of wind from passing an oncoming semi. While others pop up at speed limit or less with barely a breeze. Some people have no problems at all.
Unfortunitly this wearing on the roof pin is normal over time. You can try replacing it with a new one (good luck finding one) or with one in better condition. Or you can have a new one made at a machine shop.
A temporary solution can be found by taking a very fine, squared edge, metal file, and gently file the roof pin's groove so it has a sharp edge again. This will help prevent the cotter pin from slipping out and the roof popping up.
Make sure to cover the car's interior with something to catch the file shavings (there will be hardly any, but that also makes them difficult to remove.
I hope this made some sense. Good luck.

Mine doesn't do that but I will remember this info. Thanks for the tip.

Thx for the info i kinda thought it was something like that but did not want to start messing with things until i had a better idea of where to start.

Yea, every time i hit a bump my top popps up. But i think the people who installed it did not give it enough slack.
When i purchased the car, the top was pulled off the rear frame, wich allowed it to operate correctly. Since i have re-glued the top to the rear frame, the top will latch down with some force, but the release doesn't work at all.
To release the top, i just make sure the handle is pulled back, and then just pull on the top from the outside, trying to angle the pin back.
any ideas on how to make it work propper again would be appreciated. I'll try the file thing this week though.

mine did the same thing .. i figured out that when you push the latch to close it .. the cable isnt strong enough to push the lever to latch it ..
so i just fold a seat down and manually latch it .. idk but it looks like there should of been a spring in there to automatically latch it when you put the roof back up .. but then again some car designers are stupid .. like the one that desided the front wheel well is a good place to put a battery .. lol .. srry i work at a collision repair shop ..
