Spoiler gasket
Are there aftermarket gaskets available for under the middle portion of the rear spoiler? Not called gaskets, but I'm blanking on what they're actually called. I've looked without any luck. Thanks!
----------
GM calls this an insulator, it goes under the front edge of the center spoiler section on the convert to keep the water from going under the spoiler and into the trunk. Also called a gasket, filler and seal.

Re: Spoiler gasket
I need it too. Mine is there but shrank about 4" in length over the years.
Re: Spoiler gasket
u won't find one - here are 2 options:
1. coat the underside of the front lip with thin silicone sealer, spread flat and thin, let dry then mount the spoiler
2. 3M (and maybe others ) makes a wide, clear plastic adhesive "body protectant" film (various widths) - get a roll, trim a piece to fit the underside of front of spoiler, stick on, put spoiler back on

Re: Spoiler gasket
I am currently repainting my 87 'vert and its spoiler "gasket" was creeping all over the place too so we are using Fender Welting that is for older cars. Looks the same, has a little longer lip but it is covered up by the spoiler anyway so you never will know. Just some info from someone else that is trying to make it right again.

Re: Spoiler gasket
I purchased what is called extruded P-seal rubber which is what ASC seemed to use from www.elasostar.com its pretty inexpensive and easy just slit every two to three inches so that it curves. I used my old one as a template.

Re: Spoiler gasket
Just an FYI, I contacted Elastostar. They can make the exact dimension insulator, but they need a minimum order of 100 feet. $175 for tooling and $175 for 100 feet of it, so $350 total
If enough of us are interested it could be done. This might be something for Lon or Hawks to look into. In fact, I should PM Lon.

Re: Spoiler gasket
Chazman, sorry for the late response I was told the same thing about the 100' minimum but I spoke with a gentleman with a heavy foreign accent and asked for a sample and he charged me $ 1.50 per foot. The P portion was solid though not hollow like the link shows. Anyhow the bolts to my spoiler broke again and I took it to my body shop to have the bolts properly glued and they misplaced the gasket. So I'm stuck again without one and when I called I got the same message about a minimum order? There has to be some place that has it in stock?

Re: Spoiler gasket
It sounds like we talked to the same guy. Last week he said I needed a 50' minimum. Today it's 100'. BTW, the bead is supposed to be solid.
Also, he referred me to one of his vendors and I ordered 6 feet of the closest rubber seal. It's perfect, except for the bead which is 1/4" - double the required size.

Re: Spoiler gasket
I just spoke to a gentleman who said I could find some at www.mcmaster.com ? If you go to www.trimlok.com they have one for sale that may work. Its 2199 series and they want $162.25 plus shipping for 250' of it? If enough of us go in on something like that were are looking 8 to 10 dollars each for a 10 foot section if 25 of us go in? I'm looking at the McMaster website first guy said I would find it there?

I ordered a few samples today. Probably smarter than buying 6 feet at a time.

Re: Spoiler gasket
But a proper isolator/welting under the spoiler completes the factory look.

Re: Spoiler gasket
I'd be in for a group buy if we need a certain minimum.
Can anyone post a good pic of the material itself? Did some searching didn't find anything.
Here's P-Seal. Wouldn't be surprised to find some at a local hardware store

This looks close:

Out of all the samples I've gotten, I think this is the closest. The solid bead is not a "P seal", but I'd imagine it would work. The width would have to be trimmed a bit.

From the front of the bead to the end of it. Off the top of my head should be 3/4 of an inch, but this one is over an inch. It probably would fit under the spoiler without anyone knowing though.

Re: Spoiler gasket
I recommend neoprene rubber, and cut my own to fit. I used .093 thickness. They used to offer samples for $10 shipped, but no longer. 36" x 36" sheet will cost $34.
