Check out this ebay vert
I was trolling ebay tonight and came a cross this vert. Who can pick out the oddity on this car. Besides the fact that its grossly over priced what else do you notice thats wierd. I looked at it a few times and it took a while to get it.

Looks like the top is riveted down in the back? That does look weird. Looks restorable, but lots of work is going to be done. Reminds me what a great deal I did get on my Trans Am
Sad to see them get like that though.

Yea, top looks screwed down.
Steering wheel doesnt look right to me either, but I dont know 86's that well.
If someone has a wrecked vert, and this is a true asc conversion. This would be a great project car.

That would make a nice one to restore. The price is to high. Man they must have had this thing sitting under an Oak Tree since 1991 with no cover to get that bad.

It would be an awesome project car, if it was 500 bucks but at 2500 I dont think so. This is like its third time on ebay. Anyway the oddity is the rear spoiler. Check it out it uses a stock 3 piece. Never seen an ASC car like that. Wonder who it was made by if not ASC.

Re: Check out this ebay vert
yea its a TPI, i wouldnt pay much for it, it has HIGH miles and is in real bad shape, would need a complete resto, from the frame up, sure its missing alot of original parts also, and i think it may be some kind of a local shop type of vert conversion, does not look like an ASC at all...... like i said i would trade him my ocean front property in arizona for it, LOL.....i say $400-$600 tops unless there is something i dont know, like a pot of gold in the trunk

Re: Check out this ebay vert
It is not a ASC conversion. There was a vinyl tonneau cover that snaps onto those snaps you see to hide the top when retracted. There were several companies that did this type of conversion prior to ASC's "factory authorized" version. I can't tell who it was converted by from the pictures and the eBay seller gives no info, nor does he have a clue what he should expect to get for a non ASC convertible that is in very rough condition. I hope he put it under cover, we've had over 5.5" of rain in the past week.

Good catch on the spoiler. Wish mine was that way so it would be easier for me to remove.
And a z28 did come with TPI. Thats not odd.

Selling point
That going to take a lot of work to become a classic one day. Who does he think he's play at saying that the CONVERTIBLE TOP MAY ALSO HAVE TO BE CHANGED of course it has to if you don't want to be swimming in the rain

And I was gonna go with...."wrong tail lights, for a 86".
But that looks like an Autoform 'vert conversion. My buddy's 84 Trans Am has those same snaps.
For $500, MAYBE, but SURELY not $2500!

Re: Check out this ebay vert
Maybe I should have written this before. I can't tell you who did the conversion. I CAN tell who didn't It is not an ASC or Autoform conversion. Autoform conversions have a small rectangular lid to access the trunk well with huge ugly (IMO) chrome plated hinges. Also Autoform is a two seater. In the picture in the top row, fourth column you can see the top of the rear seat back.
Lon
PS: I'd offer to call and drop in to take a look at it in person, but I don't want to waste my time or gas. Also I haven't bought a fishing license yet, so I can't fish the pond inside the interior. Besides I'm seriously hoping everyone here knows to stay away from one of these non ASC or AutoForm conversions, especially one that is as ROUGH as this one appears. Remember, pictures usually make a car look better than it really is in person. But hey, if someone needs a chicken coop and wants to pay for my gas for the 30 minute one-way trp I'll consider driving down to take some more pictures of it. Trust me, some galvanized chicken wire will close up that rear window just fine and the chickens will be happy.

Re: Check out this ebay vert
Sorry, I need to add to my list of who didn't convert this. Also not a Choo Choo Customs. I believe Choo Choo did the conversions using kits from ASC. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that. The Choo Choo conversions look identical to the early ASC conversions. Also not done by Duquet-Sawdy Inc of Warren Mi. Theirs had a 3-piece rear window from what I read.
This leaves the following companies for speculation:
Autodyne Corp of Lincoln Park, MI
Hi-Line Kustons of Valley City, ND
American Custom Coachworks of Beverly Hills, CA
John Greenwood of Longwood, FL
Coach Builders Ltd of High Springs, FL
Richard Straman of Costa Mesa, CA
Trust me, your chickens won't care who converted this car. They'll still be happy cluckers.

Re: Check out this ebay vert
his best bet is to take it to take the dash pad out clean it up and sell it .... then i got no clue what to tell him to do with the rest of it, maybe he can tow it to the boat shows as a portable fishing pond
i wonder if the beach ball and bucket are included with it???
he has had 6 offers, i wonder what they been offering..... does anyone know how much it would cost to restore that heap??

Re: Check out this ebay vert
I believe the first true Iroc convertible came in 1987 by ASC. They made it the 20th anniv. to the camaro. The car came with a special leather pouch on the dash stating the fact of the 20th anniversary. They also didnt make very many of them. That car on E-bay is junk!!!! Anybody with a snake should pick it up just for the mice that the cars full of. Sometimes they need to be crushed and not restored unlike the saying on American Muscle Car.. " Dont crush'em, restore'em"

Re: Check out this ebay vert
Since it is pre-OEM 'vert days, I wouldn't be surprised at all, if the 'vert spoilers even EXISTED back then, therefore it would/has the "standard" spoiler.

ohhhhh 2000 now, maybe he is tired of getting $100 offers....... I wonder what Raul & Humberto are smoking, drinking, or snorting
...... i do agree i dont think its worth restoring, its worth more parting it out than selling it out right, still, im sure some of the parts can be cleaned up and sold.......reminds me of this POS Z28 some guy tried to sell me for $4,500 a few years ago, it was so cruddy it had tail light black outs with no tail lights, just bulbs sitting behind the black out

Its not an ASC, there is NO Tonneau Cover under the top... It appears to be a Hi-Line, Rare, yeah, probably, worth anytihng in that condition? Nope. I waws thinking of offering $250, then I realized it was not an ASC car.
No Rust, what is that on the Drivers fender, and what is up with the Radiator in the back seat?

Weird how the entire intior is ruined, but dash pad looks like all it needs is a good cleaning there you go. . . maybe its protected by about 5 years worth of dust and dirt. . .
And is it me, or is there a watermelon growing in there, behind the passenger's seat???

that isn't an offer of 2000.00, its a counter offer. i made the offer of 250.00 and he made a counter offer of 1500.00. when the auction ended it shows my offer was 1500.00 instead of the 250.00.
