Convertible parts
I was needing a few parts for my 1988 SC convertible. I need the plastic part that surrounds the latch area at the top of the winshield, mine is cracked. I also need the center section of the rear spoiler, I think this is convertible specific not sure. I have a ASC conversion so are the parts readily available?
I just bought this car a couple of weeks ago, and I want to get the little stuff fixed. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Convertible parts
your only luck for those are used, ie: eBay or wreckers.
My advice, save your money and try fixing it with glue and reinforcing on the back side. If you find a nice one it will likely crack again anyways.

Re: Convertible parts
I knew I didn't see many convertible Camaros but I didn't think parts were so scarce. it's just a small crack but I'm a perfectionist. I wish there were a parts list somewhere that people could view that detailed all the hard to find parts pertaining to these cars. I"ve read alot of pages here, which helped but I still have a lot of questions. Thanks
Re: Convertible parts
couldnt someone take that winshield trim and ryno line it? then you would never half to wory about it cracking again
just a thought
or someone could make one...i have seen people maken new plastic parts for their car before maby this is one that could be made

Re: Convertible parts
Bruce at Hawk's Thirdgen said he was going to start making them, like he does the upper seat belt trim pieces. A member sold him a perfect one to use as the model. Last I talked to him, he hoped in a month or so. I rebuilt mine - 3 pieces, plus 2 pieces missing. Well, almost done. 25gauge sheet aluminum epoxied to the key break points - I know where they are, cause mine was broke in all of them. :-) I started by doing the plastic glue stuff with the3 activator to try to get the pieces/cracks glued as seamless as possible. Roughed up the back first where the reinforcing aluminum was going...didn't want to stress th glued parts. Then I stabilized them with the aluminum backing. Where the missing pieces where, I put the aluminum on as a backing, then used Bondo glazing & spot putty to build the missing areas back up. I had a missing corner on th end, had to layer the aluminum, etc. to approximate the contour of the curve/lip that slips into the A pillar trim (I think they all break there, too.) I reinforced behind the visor mounting areas, too. Mine was broken in half on one side, way cracked on the other. Need to get some Duplicolor cloth & vinyl/plastic dye. Right now I'm experimenting/messing around trying to get a matching texture to the surface. Tried a layer of silicone on the surface to make a mold to lay on the fresh bondo, but that didn't work. May just have to be smooth. But if you aren't looking for the repairs, they aren't that noticeable. I'm not an Armorall fan, but I've been using Turtlewax F-21 protectant (nanotechnology, whatever that is), not smelly, looks good after a couple coats - gotta leave it on overnite if the surface is oxidized bad. Any suggestions about getting a texture on? I thought about that wrinkle pain in a rattle can...way hesitant to try that.

Re: Convertible parts
I wouldn't hold your breath on it it has been a long time in the making. Bruce was going to do them a year or two ago and the parts are hard to cast and get to look original. that was the problem before is whoever he had making them did the first one and it didn't look all that great and being the guy he is he didn't sell them. If they do become available it is gauranteed they will look nos. always a big 2
to Bruce he has never disappointed me.

Hawk's has aftermaket for $75/pair

couple different kinds on this page. I've seen originals for sale on Ebay, they can run up in price really quick, pay that much & more for one side. The weatherstrip molding piece that goes there can really cost, too. Haven't seen aftermarket for those yet. Got a used one, not perfect, but better than none, which is what I had.

oops...some of the address got cut out. hawksthirdgen, 82-92 f body, search convertible
