Pictures after lowering the Z

Me and my buddy had a little spare time today and put on my 1" Hotchkis lowering springs

Sorry the pictures suck hardcore, I'll take some better ones later in the springtime. I just put the car back into storage :scratchch

Anyways, they're still settling a little bit, but you get the idea. I really like them. I already noticed a difference in the handling department.

Looks great. Very balanced and definently lower then stock.

Can you post a side shot from before just so we get a good comparison?

btw you should remove your mudflaps, big tires look good from the back. :P

I'm going to remove the mudflaps when I get the whole car repainted because I don't wanna have those little holes in the inner fender from where they were mounted. Plus I'm afraid to see if there's surface rust behind them. I might cry. There's none anywhere else on the car and if there's one place it would be it would be behind the mudflaps because of the drilled holes. (I didn't put them on they were already on the car when I bought it)

Looks good Nick, hope you had it out for a nice long test drive, 75 Degrees today and 3-6 inches of Snow Monday night -Tuesday, Gotta love St. Louis Weather. I know I put a few hundred on mine this weekend, and put it back in the garage for the week.

Yea it's a 1" Hotchkis set. The part numbers are 1902R and 1903R I believe, they're blue. You can look em' up on any site that carries Hotchkis. I got mine for free!

You're not kiddin' Jeff...I woke up today and saw that it was 75* outside and about crapped myself...I drove the Camaro around all day but it's back in the garage now...I still haven't decided for sure if I'm gonna drive it or Krista's IROC-Z on the cruise next Sunday.

Actually I was suprised that there is no rubbing even with the 275/40/17's on all 4 corners. It fits perfectly, and I've got aftermarket shocks and struts so the ride isn't too harsh. It is slightly rougher than stock but isn't excessive. It definatly handles better than it used to though.

What springs do you have on yours? Hotchkis only makes 1" springs for our cars.

Yea I dunno about that repaint. That is probably the very last thing on my list with the car. A T56, LS1 front brakes, and a built L98 are up front on the list, along with a 6pt "cage" (roll bar really).

Looks great. Any concerns on scraping the front. I know on my 92 RS the front was all scraped up. I dreaded going to any entrance that had any type of incline...

The ZR1's look great on your car too. I've been debating getting them for the TA. But then the C5 wheels look pretty good on them... But I love the stock ones and want to get a refinished set. Decisions Decisions Decisions

I just have to be more cautious wherever I go in it so that I don't scrape it up. I don't really drive it too much so it shouldn't be an issue anyways.

ZR1's would look really good on your vert.

It's the angle of the photo. If I took one of the car directly from the side it would look level.

Looks good bud. I installed a set of intrax springs on my 88', previous owner left a piece of 2x4 wood block in the lower control arm giving the car a lifted look. Fixed that real quick.

Re: Pictures after lowering the Z

Looking good!
I learned that lowering springs don't always lower our cars. Got some 1" drop springs but the ride height didn't change. It's due to our old sagging springs that have been in our cars for a decade or two.
So I cut the stock springs that I have and did it actually twice, to drop it to the height I liked. Also installed lowering brackets at the same time to do the job right. Came out looking good. Can't complain!

Re: Pictures after lowering the Z

How do these cars ride with the lowering springs. Is it a very hard ride? Does it constantly feel like the car is bouncing up and down as you drive down the road? Does it feel like the stock springs ride. I have a set of PST Stock ride height replacement spring on the 86 TA. i love the way they make the car feel it rides very smooth and feels solid. But There is quite a bit of space in the fender wells over the wheels and it doesn't look too good.

Let me know what u think.

Re: Pictures after lowering the Z

It is definatly a bit more harsh of a ride with lowering springs. But it handles so much better now. And it looks better. I don't really drive it all too much so I don't mind the rough ride. If I was still using it as a DD I probably wouldn't have switched springs.

Re: Pictures after lowering the Z

can you measure from the center of the wheel to the underside of the fender front and back?? i want to change out the springs on my car, but i scrap already, and i want to get an idea of ground clearance, taking out the different wheel and tire diameters.

What size wheels and tires are you running right now? And are you running aftermarket or stock springs?

I could get that measurement for you but I don't know how accurate it would be.

I think Sportline makes a 2" drop or maybe Eibach, but my Hotchkis 1" springs are more than enough as you can see in the pictures it looks like it's a little more than an inch.

Re: Pictures after lowering the Z

When I first got my vert I was just fine with the ride height, UNTIL I drove next to a lowered third gen. Couldn't get it out of my head. Now I am lowered more than most (cut half a turn out of the lowering springs and did surgery on the back stock springs). I love it even though the ride is a bit more rough and I have to be a bit more careful over speed bumps etc. I only drive it occasionally so the look is much more important than the ride.

I could get that measurement for you but I don't know how accurate it would be.
stock rs wheels and standard issue tires... stock springs that have settled way down from what i know. if you measure from the center of the wheel it will take any wheel and tire combo variation out of the mix.. i know that with the tires your running you have a diameter that is approx .75" larger than mine. Once i know what the spacing is on the Hotchkis springs, i can extrapolate it to how much ground clearance my car will have.

When you take my 17" rim with the tire mounted, it is the exact same size as my stock 16" rims with the tires mounted on them. Then add a 1" Hotchkis set and that's what you get. What it looks like with my 17's is just how itwould look with the stock wheels and tires on it.

it looks fantastic, i just need to know what the dimension is, my concern is ground clearance, and the only way to calculate it is center of wheel to underside of the lip of the fender. My stock springs have settled so much that i scrap on everything, driving on the back roads is unthinkable, i'll rip the nose of the car off.
