Going to check out a 88 Iroc vert (is this a good deal)?
Asking $5600.
Title was a salvage. I am told it is now clear. I was told the front passenger fender and door skin were replaced (how big of a concern is this?).
I am told 56,000 original miles. He has no documentation of this. But I think I can verify this through car fax?
Sounds like a pretty stock Iroc vert. I am told no major mechanical issues. What do you guys think about the asking price?

Don't know the laws where you are, but I would be leary of a salvage title. Find out why it had a salvage and what state cleaned it. If they cleaned the title, what else did they clear? Speedo perhaps. Price is a little stiff for a salvage. But, just my 2 cents

IMO too much for a salvage car. Are verts worth that much more than coupes? I think 5-6 grand is par for a clear title car in good condition. Also I can't tell much from those pics.

Historically speaking a Vert is worth about 1.5x to 2x that of a coupe in similar condition with the same options, engine, trans etc.... Of course that is a basic rule of thumb... As the performance goes up so goes the value... again just as a rule of thumb...

door skins and fenders are pretty common things, not a big deal. any chance of better pics? to check the door skinning job open the door and look at the welds around the shell of the door (where the emission logos and vin number are on the door) where it meets the outter skin, check these for rust to make sure it was done properly.

All good advice, sounded like to me. Okfoz, quick question...I'm dialing in my vert, did the T-5 tranny swap, going to do a rear end upgrade, I believe the motor was rebuilt before I got it. Headers, aluminum drive shaft, etc. I'm keeping all my original parts, in case I sell it later (not - more likely my estate sells it when I'd toes-up) and the buyer wants it back original. You say value goes up with performance? I kinda saw the very low miles, all original cars getting the bucks. But I haven't so much followed the modified ones. I'm doing mine because it's sooo much more fun. Thanks. John

The more the performance the more the value increase... Of course typically that is from Factory Performance...
If you keep the original parts, and set them to the side, when you go to sell the car I would suspect that those parts would help sell the car... it would depend on who you sell the car and what they want... One of the biggest problems with modifying a car comes to repairs... I always figured if I kept the mechanicals "Stock" so that a factory service manual could still be used it would be better than trying to modify it beyond serviceability.
Of course there are several arguments for any position and ultimately it would depend on the person wanting to buy the car.
Of course I am not sure if I answered you question...

yeah, answered it perfectly. Seems factory performance is the key. Although everything has a niche, if you look for the right buyer. Most of what I'm doing is bolt-on. Well, except the welded subframe connectors. I know lots dump a bunch of money into their cars on modifications and never get it back out. My car will look the same, just run better/sound better. I looked at this 90 vert locally...the Marlboro car I talked about in another thread. 23K miles, I wouldn't have felt like I could/should do a thing to that other than pamper it. I want something I'm not afraid to drive. Which is what I have. Got an air dam. Man what a difference in the engine temp that made! Wow. Thanks John.

PERSONALLY I do not consider SFC's a detractor from the value of most cars. Personally I think they are a good thing. In short I would not turn down a car with SFC's and although they are not "original" they do serve a purpose.
I imagine some people will argue with me... I guess where I would draw the line is if the car was a low miles otherwise all original rare performance model, like a TTA or a Firehawk or my 89 350 Vert... personally it ticked me off that a previous owner installed a strut tower brace to my vert, on an otherwise all original 36K miles car...

By factory performance I think 1le, That is what a factory hi-po car means . those will always be getting the big bucks.
Low mileage cars like Iroc-zs will be higher also.

There is a corelation between (factory) Horsepower and Value pure and simple. A 350 will fetch more money than a 305, and a 305 will fetch more than a V6 everything else being equal 99.9% of the time.

On the salvage title, find out when it was done. 10 years ago it wasn't worth fixing even the verts as there were enough of them around and insurance companies didn't want to pay. They might still total one of these even with relatively cosmetic damage. If the frame is straight and things all line up and look right (look under the back seat at the sheet metal etc) then I wouldn't worry about the salvage title.
