Covertable Toneau Switch

I've just read through the posts on verts. I have an '89 IROC vert. Last winter I swapped in a T-5, but that is not necessarily relevant to my question.
I previously owned a '92, 25th Ed. Z-28 T-top. My question concerns the center console switch. On a coupe, as we know, it is the hatch release. On a vert it releases the tonneau. I find this somewhat reduntant; to electricly release the cover to a manual top.
Has anyone converted/rewired this switch to release the trunk?
I, of course, have the rear hatch pull-down/release. Do I need any additional parts? Also, even though I've installed new struts, the deck lid doesn't clear the release. When I use the key, I have to give a little extra lift, or the pull-down engages and pulls the decK lid back down.

Also, where can I find a replacement for the discolored seal on the tonneau?

I am just now getting her ready for spring. (It's been a long, cold winter. We had over 101 inches of snow in Jan.)

Thanks

Re: Covertable Toneau Switch

127 views and no replies? Here's my proposed solution...get a trunk release assembly from another GM (even a Cavalier). Remove the existing, worthless release/pull down assembly and install the assembly. FWIW - the pull down mechanism was developed because owners would overload the cargo compartment and slam the hatch - breaking the glass. It is not necessary on a vert.
The selenoid will be on the deck lid and just a latch in the trunk. IMO - this will also solve the heavy deck lid issue on a vert. Mine doesn't even clear the pull down - even with new struts, unless you give it a little extra lift.

Re: Covertable Toneau Switch

Is there a way to manually release the tonneau cover. Blew a fuse once , this time the switch seems to engauge , but no release and no selinoid "click". Thinking there must be a manual way. ?????????????????????
