little assistance reassembling my tonneau release

Car: 88 Iroc-Z Convertible
Engine: 305 TPI
Transmission: 700R4
little assistance reassembling my tonneau release
Looks like I have everything except 2 pieces now to get my tonneau release back together...
one, I can fabricate... the adapter place to install the new style lever/pull in place of the old lever.
The second piece, I cant imagine what its for... I circled it in red
looks like a lever of some sort, but I cant imagine where it goes...
also, if someone could post a picture of the underside of their tonneau with the 89+ mechanics, I would appreciate it. I have the remnants of the earlier system on mine right now.
