trunk carpet replacement
I am just completing installing new carpet in the passenger area and am now moving on the the trunk to replace that carpet. I have the carpet already purchased from stock interiors and upon initial eyeballing...am uncertain if it has to be cut around the trunk hinges. Any insight into getting that in efficiently would be appreciated. Car is 88 IROC. thanks
Re: trunk carpet replacement
If I may ask where did ya find the carpet? Was it molded.? How tough was it to replace? Etc as you can guess I'm about to take on the challenge of cleaning up my 91 vert after my kid tore it up for 5 years. Seats dashboard carpets paint etc.

Re: trunk carpet replacement
Carpet came from www.stockinteriors.com . The pass area was more challenging than I had initially anticipated because the entire center console needed to be removed. On top of that there is a fair amount of trimming to do as well. The carpet is molded but even than fit was okay. The carpet needs to be worked over and pressed pretty good to seat right, but I am sure with time it will settle even better. I did install sound deadening material under it as well.

Re: trunk carpet replacement
I have installed carpet in 4 camaros in the last 2 years. The best way in install is STEAM the carpet first to get out some of the wrinkles. Start around the console, toward the under dash area, sides to door openings then toward the rear.Take a metal pointer (all) and heat is up with a bottle torch and poke it through the carpet for your seat belt holes. It melts a nice hole for the belt bolts and seat frame bolts.Hope this helps.JIM

Trunk carpet was a snap. Did everything recommended above. I was amazed at how heavy duty the OEM carpet was. The backing was incredibly thick. The hot poker for the seat belt holes and seat bolts worked very well.

I bought the one with the console cutout. I cant quite recall how much is cut out. I did have to snip the end to get it started up against the firewall.
