Re: I'm in trouble... 92 Z03 Z28 Vert
This may seem sacrilegious, but i found a good solution to the loose dash vents is to get some 1/8th inch foam stripping tape (got it from the screen door section in walmart) put a little on both contact edges of the vent , squeeze the foam to compress it and pop the vents in. Can't tell it's there once it's back in and once the foam expands back out it makes the vents much more stiff (so to speak)

Great progress so far!
What brand of window sweeps did you get and how well do they fit? I've heard that some fit better than others. I'm going to replace the door seals and window sweeps on my 91 when I paint it. I want to make sure I get something I'll be happy with so I won't have to do it twice.

I got GM outer window sweeps and I had to redrill 2 holes on 1 side and 1 hole on the other. They fit OK but definitely not worth the money.

The lip that lays on the door is shiny but the part that lays against the window has a fuzzy coating on the outside of them that comes off if it is rubbed with a finger. I am not sure if it is a protective coating or the rubber deteriorated a bit from age. They aren't as nice as they should have been for the price I paid. I think I would have been just as happy with a set of repros.

Re: I'm in trouble... 92 Z03 Z28 Vert
I got to wipe a little vinyl and rubber dressing on the dash today first time since it has been back together...

I also got to put some dressing on underhood. There is one section of wire loom that needs replaced, but other than that I think I'm done under here... what do you think?

If all goes well, I should be installing my top tomorrow with the help of a buddy
My painter came bye and talked options of what we can do with what... getting excited as my bank account get smaller.

Now to get the inside and outside looking that good lol! Thanks. After I get the "new" carpet in, which will happen after the top. No sense getting the inside too nice when I can't keep water out. It might be a week or two before I start that, I got a couple big car shows for the 91 I have been devoting a bunch of my "spare" time too lol

Well got a lunch break update...
Got the R12 all re-charged back up. It wasn't empty! Small leak on the high side schrader valve. Put all new valves in and a high side pressure switch for the fan that was being a little flaky... blows 36 degrees!!! Hope I never need it LOL!
Ordered a used underhood mat from FLYNLOW, and installed it. Now its looking great under the hood!
before degreasing

cleaned and install (need to clean the push pins)

Oh and still no top on... my butthole "friend" bailed on me to help. Oh well back to plan A lol!

I just need to clean them up. I have 3 hoods worth, but I was running out of time so I snapped them in.

Well I got some time to play with it last night... Started tearing into the interior!

Never seen to much garbage under one seat. 2 Bic lighters, 4 pens, a screwdriver bit set, a switchblade looking folding knife, a spoon, a magazine, nails and rivets... not counting trash!

My little bonus for cleaning it up... I stopped caring about counting at $4.29

Only a couple small spots of surface rust under the carpet! Pretty good for sitting under a tree for YEARS!!! I wire wheeled the areas, and applied rust encapsulator, then undercoating.
Carpet is going in tonight!!!

Re: I'm in trouble... 92 Z03 Z28 Vert
I also start stripping the wheels... I will post pics of that progress as well.

The WEAK stripper I bought...
Multiple coats

I'll add some more pics of the progress later
I used a scotch bright pad and slowly scrubbed the wheel face in the machined areas, and used a Roloc disc on an angle grinder to removed some curb scuff on the outer lip of the wheels. I quickly applied and "polished" the machined surface with Mothers Billet polish to have fresh aluminum look, but not a deep shine... I wanted a OE finish.
Here you can see I used a different? method from what I have seen to paint the wheels. I used masking tape for the outer lip of the wheel, but did not mask the spokes at all.

I used wax/grease remover on a shop rag and wiped the paint from the machined surfaces which left a very crisp line... Better than I think I would have had with my fineline tape.

The wheel before clearcoat with tape removed.

The wheel with clear coat ready to be re-installed in the car.

I know right... I knew there was nothing serious from the bottom, but I figured after getting to do a surprise water pump, intake gaskets, heater core, fuel pump there would HAVE to be something else!

Started re-assembling the interior last night... Got a lot done, but ran out of steam around 11:30 and huffing paint fumes from the wheels lol
Replacement carpet installed, with the cleaned up original console.

Slowly got the trim put on...

The rear seats are just sitting in there. I'm gonna try and buy new side panels.

Got the drivers seat belt cover & seals installed. Need to re-drill two of the hole that don't line up.

The 6x9 speaker cover I made to resemble stock. Looks better, but not good...

All in all its looking so much better... really turning out nice. With everything else looking so good the seats look so horrible (not that they ever looked good). I gotta run into some cash to buy my leather!

Try and push the hour and minute button at the same time with the radio off... If it doesn't work send a pic of the actual factory radio...

Put in another late night with the car.
Re-finished two more of the wheel. I bead blasted the brake drums and painted them while I had them off. Not factory, but just looks nice. Applied some fresh undercoating in the wheel wells also.

The wheels while the clear coat is drying

While waiting for paint to dry I swapped out the rear seat belt covers. Can you tell which ones went back into the car... LOL

First pics with its nice RED wheels on...

I found out last night that it will be going in for paint much sooner than I thought... My boss is giving me a "bonus" for helping flip a couple really profitable cars recently for our shop. Felt like I won the lottery. So with that expense out of the way I think my seats will come sooner than I thought

Re: I'm in trouble... 92 Z03 Z28 Vert
I am building this one at home so the wife doesnt get mad, I spend way to much time at work as it is. I promised to work on this in my spare time with my son, so I doubt I will put the top on at the house. I will either take it to the shop or to my interior girl.

Re: I'm in trouble... 92 Z03 Z28 Vert
I would love to be working on this at home, but our two car garage isn't cutting it. I keep finding new house with oversized 3 cars or a shop in the backyard, but she loves the house and the neighborhood... I'm stuck for now
Honestly if I had the money I would have paid someone to do it. That install money will buy my leather kit though.
