Tonneau release works great when top is up.... but not down

The title is the question, that's really it. My release solenoid works great nice strong click, only have to hit it once, brackets disengage with no resistance everything is greased and smooth. When the top is up and I want to put it down it works great. When the top is down and I want to put it up I hit the button and NOTHING. No click, nothing!

Any ideas what it could be?

Thanks
Brian

Trunk latch issue? From what I understand they use the same circuit and will not operate the tonneau when the truck is open. Might be a good first place to check? Not sure why it would work open though?

Seems to me if it happens with the top down that Perhaps the top being folded down is pushing up against the tonnue switch with the cover closed, and causing it to not make good electrical connection, thus proper works when up but not down. Just my theory, but if your release switch isn't in the tonnue like mine, wouldn't be that.

My hatch pull down is in-op so maybe a trunk issue could cause it. but then again if that were it I would think it wouldn't work top up or top down.

My switch is in the tonneau so maybe I'll have to check that.

Thanks guys

Da Spudro thanks, you nailed it! I kinda feel like an idiot since it stares you in the face. I zip tied the loomed harness to the top release cable then zip tied the two wires to each other right behind the switch itself so they help each other stay more rigid and up out of the way. Works great.

Now onto the next minor problem.... hatch pull down lol.

Sorry I just saw this - no problem, we've all had times where we rack our brains over something and someone else just pulls the answer right out of their back pocket without blinking. I know I have had my fair share of those (some I've felt really stupid over like I shouldn't even own a car). That's why this community is here - glad it worked out for you and all is well.

Check the link to a tech article I wrote years ago on repairing the 86-87 & 88-91 pull-down units.
