Just Bought a Project Iroc Vert !
I'm officially a third gen hoarder (2 TG's) GTA and Iroc Vert
I love black Camaro Verts.
Like I don't have enough to do ... LOL.
Couldn't resist 1990 Iroc Z Vert, Black, 305/auto 174K mile on clock. Scale of 1-10, I give it a 6.
The good:
work to do)
Will post pics later, they are in my text messages and cant get them out of there.

Couldn't resist 1990 Iroc Z Vert, Black, 305/auto 174K mile on clock. Scale of 1-10, I give it a 6.
The good:

- Runs strong and shifts, no smoke
- Engine rebuilt or swapped at 100K miles
- Trans 700R4 rebuilt, clean fluid/red
- starts, idles, no over heat, fan works
- New dash pad, interior good, orig seats(good), carpet black and good
- RPO codes in tact on console(Z28), match Vin
- top 5 year old, no leaks, minor wear at side window
- Body straight, paint is fair recent macco job
- tires 50% ... or could be a bad ?
- newer magna flow exhaust cat back
- Power windows work well
- Rust free engine bay, will clean up nice
- I would be 3rd owner.
- Owner delivering car(from 1 hr away, if it breaks ... no sale)

work to do)
- The driver door sags, needs hinges redone.
- Driv door needs love/body work, pass door has ding
- Will eventually repaint
- AF leak at tstat gasket - minor
- Tach doesnt work
- High beams- no workie
- Lost door lock keys, trunk loose
- Cracked Y pipe - easy fix
- Needs weather strip on doors replaced
- Missing a rear seat belt Driver side rear
- Rear seat has holes in lower
- brakes- work ok but will redo
Will post pics later, they are in my text messages and cant get them out of there.

Nice car to fix. Cant go wrong on the 90 Iroc Rags. only 1254 made. I have a mint 16,000 mile BLACK 90 Iroc Z Ragtop just like yours and a RED 90 Iroc Z Ragtop with 53,000 miles Had the Red car over 17 yrs and the Black car a couple years. Plan on giving them to my daughter and son someday. Sounds like you know alot about the 3rd gen cars. I have had around 20 of them over time and like to drive and work on them. Have fun with the RAG! Re: Just Bought a Project Iroc Vert !
Taking delivery today, carfax report - NO Accidents reported!!
Car did have 6 titles, so I am not the 3rd owner -oh well .... originated from VA, then PA, then NJ.
The guy who owned it before this seller said it originally came with a 350. Only 4 were made w/350s (i think in 87)
I told him that was BS ... 6th # was a 3 and 8th # was a F (305 from factory destined to be a vert). He said the guy had the original 350 in his yard when he bought it, offered it to him.... but was a boat anchor.
With those #s on the vin there was no way this was a 350 car.
Good to know the facts thanks to this site and the internet.
more pics later ...

Anybody do a door swap ?
I watched a youtube on camaro doors, do the hinges unbolt from inside down by kick panel ? One vid showed bolts in there, other info read, welded hinges ? or should I just let my body guy do it ?

Looks like a great start on the car man. Way better than mine
I was wondering when you were gonna find your way into one. That 1990 year is freaking low numbers, so enjoy your new collector car haha!
The doors and hinges will unbolt from the body from inside the kick panel. You might just need new hinge pin bushings and not need to swap doors. Might talk to your mechanic and see where he thinks the sag is coming from if you cannot obviously spot it your self. Save a headache. Again welcome to the "Dark" side

Thanks man, after reading your 8 page restore thread, you psyc'd me over the edge ... LOL.
I told you I was looking for one. This one must have been under a tree somewhere like yours, there was about 20 lbs of leaves and pine needles in the engine bay. Shop vac it last night.
I have to say, the Camaro ride is much smother than the bird, either that or the 350 is much heavier than the 305 ??

Found a black door in NJ, sorta rusted ... got to look at it. Has same interior panel and mirror.
Making progress.
Cleaned IAC, cleaned K&N's, shop vac leaves and pine needles, took door apart, decided need for new one, hinges suck, mirror doesnt operate properly w/ cables.
I'll keep you all posted.

Re: Just Bought a Project Iroc Vert !
Been a while, haven't even registered the car - but I did a few things,,, taking it slow. So far.....
Replace PCV and hose
Replaced water pump, new AF
Clean IAC, tuned TPS to .54v
Cleaned K & N Air filters
On to the Driver Door -can get a used door same color in and out for like $50. Old one is F'd up, lock gone and linkeage all messed up.
Question - I see all the bolts for the door hinges, I plan to open up, block it up for support, take off bolts .... where does PW and Pow locks disconnect ? Is the a plug harness in the door or in the car ?
Next: Replace Door and pull TPI for cleanup and get to EGR -
Fix exhaust leak and new cat, brake and rear tires.

Also - can you take door off and put back on without removing fender ?
Appreciate the info.

Yes the door can come off w/o removing fender - just jack up the back end of the door and support it vertically so you can pull the pins out of the hinges. Otherwise find a 12 y.o that's really good with open end wrenches and take your interior kick panel off and unbolt the hinges from the frame.
I don't remember if there are hinge bolts on the door side or if they are spot welded.

Thanks -
The lower hinge bolts are inside at kickpanel, upper hinge bolts are accessible with door open.
I plan on opening door all the way, block it up, remove bolts, bolt new one on ... after I rebuild its hinges w/pins and bushings, bolt on and adjust.
Sound about right ? Any other advice ?

Do yourself a favor and go spend $30 at home depot and build yourself a real support structure for the doors made out of 2x4's. Unless of course you have open rafters in your garage - then you can go buy some long tie downs and a few lag bolts. Mount the lag bolts in the open rafters and use the tie downs to support the door from above. You can use rope but using a flat tie down may keep the door from rolling and provides a flat edge.
Just a couple suggestions I can think of after reminiscing about all the stupid **** I did trying work on my cars in my youth.
Hope it helps. Feel free to hit me back for more. I've probably forgotten more than I can remember.

Re: Just Bought a Project Iroc Vert !
I remember doing this as a stupid 20 yo without thinking it through. I had the door supported by a cinder block and an 8"x8" piece of wood. When the last bolt came out I thought I could hold the door up with one arm...I almost ripped the wires out when the weight of the door overtook me - and I was a stout 220lbs then.

LOL- things we did when we were young. I'm in construction (Steel), familiar with rigging. Was planning on 3 blocks w/wood shims on top -one under door at hinges, one middle, one end. Once last bolt comes out I will have help to stabilize it.

This is next, just ordered hinge pins and bushings, going to fix the door rather than get replacement. Rust not so bad. If I get it swinging and aligned good, I will keep it.... Ordered weatherstrip kits also.
Power Window works too well to trash the door.
Thinking of shaving door handles and putting poppers in. All my locks are no good, PO lost keys and switched doors at one time, so no key for trunk either.

Re: Just Bought a Project Iroc Vert !
Got the door off - new pins in and bushings. Found a missing bolt for one of the hinges in a pile of leaves at the bottom of the door well...LOL
Made rehanging a bit easier. Bought a wratcheting straight box wrench for upper bolts (13mm) made big diff in getting those bolts in on upper hinge.
World of difference, bushings were shot and gone.
Door is still in pretty bad shape. I maybe replace'g it before painting.
Closes good now, I'm happy w/ that.
Job was pretty easy.
On to the TPI removal, replace EGR/IAC/CTS/TPS ... see how it goes.

Re: Just Bought a Project Iroc Vert !
Yo - update, been away for a while, busy boating ...
Got the door back on nicely, closes smooth.
Fixed mirror, bought one off fleabay, change the guts/cable, works now.
Then the power window motor is acting wierd, gotta replace it before i close it up.
Installed new trunk lock.
Pulled TPI plenum, replaced EGR valve/IAC/CTS/O2 sensor ... still kinda rough on idle.
Got Tags and insurance, on the road now.
Next rear tires, fix exhaust, check brakes (seem fine), get running smoother ...
Having fun tho, its a project.
GTA is throwing a code 33 .... did MAF last yr, thing the CTS is acting up ?
Got the door back on nicely, closes smooth.
Fixed mirror, bought one off fleabay, change the guts/cable, works now.
Then the power window motor is acting wierd, gotta replace it before i close it up.

Re: Just Bought a Project Iroc Vert !
Me too ! I'll be happy once I get it running good/smoother.
Fast like a raped ape, almost feels faster than my 350 on GTA.
Then on to the body work/paint, then interior.
Time is the killer.

Re: Just Bought a Project Iroc Vert !
Well got the Car back from the shop.
They tuned it up, new plugs/ wires, distrib,- said the old diz bolts were snapped off, diz was able to wobble around.
Fixed exhaust leak and a installed Cat, passed inspection till 2015.
Biggest problem (problem maybe?) is still a trace of rough running at low idle. Mechanic thinks the PO put a different CAM in it and it causing the shake.
Has incredible power while running, doesn't stall, just shake at lower idle. Runs like a raped ape, I'll have to get #s off engine, feels like a 350 in this thing.
Whats weird is at cold start,- slightly higher idle, feels as smooth a Cadillac.
As soon as it drops out, light shake. When in gear heavier shake...
Should I OHM test the injectors?
Only electronic piece I didn't replace was the TPS, I set it at .54v, all else is new, IAC, CTS, 02 senser.....
What about a new MAP sensor ?
Thoughts ?
Speaking of MAP, its floating in space - where does it mount anybody have a pic?

Re: Just Bought a Project Iroc Vert !
Well ..........answer to mystery # 1.
Just did an OHM test on the injectors.
Drivers side all read .15 x 4
Pass Side =.15 / .13 / .09 /and last one .004.
I think I found the culprit !
Looks like an injector job. How hard is an injector job ?
I can tear plenums/and runners off like a wild man ....
Advice always appreciated.

Re: Just Bought a Project Iroc Vert !
I have changed injectors a few times and it isnt hard. There is a moon shaped clip at the top of the injector that you have to turn to un lock it from the fuel rail that can be a pain but other than that it is not bad. Remember to give it a good blasting from the car wash or with strong compressed air to clean around the injectors to help with dirt contamination. I also use a little vasoline on the O-rings.

Phase one - "Take off"
I got the injectors out today, started cleaning up the top, got a little gasket to scrape off on lower runners.
Installed new regulator - so far so good.
Had to take tstat housing off to swing the wrench on bracket nut, man is that in a bad spot. Also belt had to come off, in way of fuel line nuts ... fun fun, needed to redo tstat gasket anyway.
Here's the old multechs and the new Bosch IIIs, they are same length.
Instructions say put injector in manifold first so they are seated properly. Other say rail first, I can under stand with the old clips on multechs, but no clips on Boschs.

Re: Just Bought a Project Iroc Vert !
Got the injector job done, RUNS LIKE SILK now
Amazing difference, I'm happy.
Picked up a whole bunch of used parts from a vert parts car.
Fog lights
Pillar cap- pass side
Back seats - bottom
Front passenger seat
Shift ****
Back seat belts -outer
Back interior panels
Head light covers - new in box
Spare tire
I'll be busy now moving onto the interior stuff.
