N10 and SFC's
N10 and SFC's
Anyone have some advice on using SFC's with the N10 dual cat option?
I have an 89 Formula 350 vert. I bought the Alston SFC's and went to put them on, but there is no room due to the dual cat piping. It does appear that a previous owner may have had the cat assembly remade as it looks relatively new. Maybe they built it differently thsan stock?
Any help is appreciated.

Wow, another 89 formula 350 vert! Nice cars aren't they?
Any pix of the car and exactly what the Y pipe looks like?

The drivers side is fine. The passenger side has a pipe right under where the forward tab mounts to the body. The is not enough gap between the body and the exhaust pipe for the sfc to fit.

And which subframes are they? I'm guessing Inner ?
Between the N10 and the added body structure ASC put on, subframes are a challenge for sure

Re: N10 and SFC's
It's interesting that Pontiac offered N10s on convertibles and not Chevy. I tried to order an N10 convertible, IROC-Z, in 1989 but was told I couldn't, with no other explanation. So I contacted the F-car Chief Engineer at the time, John Heinricy, and asked him why. He said because of clearance on the convertible. I didn't press him on why Firebirds could be so equipped, because at that point it was just a rumor.

Chazman,
Keep in mind that technically all Convertibles were an ASC conversion, however in 1989 the Firebird was done for Pontiac Dealerships, and Camaros were done for Chevrolet. So you could get a lot more with the Pontiac, because they did not have to go through all the testing for fuel economy... Structurally and parts wise they were identical with a few cosmetic changes.
