1987 IROC Z28 Convertible with a 350
I saw a 1987 IROC Z28 Convertible on Volo Car Museums website, and it says that there was only 2 IROC's produced, with the 350. Is that true? When I asked him to produce the documentation that proves this, he actually said that it's up to the BUYER to prove him wrong! REALLY???? Call me old fashioned, but I always thought it was the other way around! He wants $26k for a $16k car! And, his explanation for it, is because of it's rarity.
Can anyone tell me if there was only two produced? Or, is this guy blowing smoke?
Thanks,
Jobn

But, if the seller can show the facts, instead of a piece of paper that someone typed up, saying that they "believe" it to be true, then he will probably get some serious buyers, willing to spend 10 grand more than book!
Someone else from the other section I posted this in, already answered the question, and it's not a factory convertible, so the rarity doesn't matter.
But, I'm sure that he'll find a sucker to sell it to, and pocket his 10 grand!

In addition to the "only 2" question:
As ALL research has shown & from ASC former employees. There were 8 known IROC verts with 350s. All 8 came from a dealer in Las Vegas & all 8 were 1988 models.
The President of ASC whom I have spoken with personally told me NO ASC cars were produced without going through a dealer program. So if this car is really a 350 vert made by ASC there should be plenty of people hunting it but it's a made up car.

So don't buy it or offer him what you think it's worth. I don't see the big deal. This thread seems to belong in the ****-obsess...er history/originality sub-forum.

Well, I just got off the phone with the salesman, and he's telling me that he has the dealer order paperwork showing that it went to ASC for the conversion. He said he's not sure about there only being two made, but he swears up and down that it's an ASC vert.

I've seen the photocopy if the paperwork. Give them the $25,000 & buy it if you want the car. Ultimately "real" is relative. I know plenty of women with fake ***** but they aure look real. If you live in Illinois see if you can get a history report & make sure the details jive.

Re: 1987 IROC Z28 Convertible with a 350
I know of 5 IROC-Z 350 ASC Verts that were made in 1987, I have the VIN for 5 of them
121444, 137831, 135368, 145203 & 147398. All of these were 350 cars, and reported as being converted. one I have a full VIN of, probably the car in question, and the other 4 are verified to be 350 cars by VIN thru carfax/autocheck. One of the VINS I am not sure if it is a Norwood or Van Nuys because both came back as being a 350 car. THAT would be sweet, to own an IROC 350 convertible, and an IROC 350 Coupe or T-top with the same exact sequence number, each from a different plant.

Thank you for the follow-up & correction.
The VIN plate is still suspicious to me

WRONG! I have an 87 IROC convertible with "leather". There are many of them. But they only offered leather in Grey and Red. Now this doesn't prove the car is authentic. But leather was for sure available in 87.

Re: 1987 IROC Z28 Convertible with a 350
Seats and door panels were redone from the original Deluxe Grey Cloth to black vinyl, steering wheel was recovered and UM6 radio was replaced, but this car is very much real with build sheet from Norwood plant, Ed James Chevrolet dealer invoice showing that it was shipped to ASC in Livonia, MI for conversion, original sales receipt and CarFax title history to prove it. Also VIN is one of five verified to have factory B2L 350's and converted by ASC for dealers. Almost all parts to bring it completely back to original have already been sourced and work will be completed by end of year. I'll post pics when it is complete.
